If you like a refreshing Rosé on a hot summers day, the Fleurs de Prairie Rosé is for you. It doesn’t have a strong fruit presence in the taste, so isn’t overwhelming on the palate. It makes this wine all too easy to drink. You’ll find yourself polishing off a bottle with ease.

If you’ve been with the Cheeky Vino for a while now, you’ll know I am a notorious bottle hoarder. I am very good at buying wine that I really want to drink and saving it for a special occasion. Then I forget it’s there, and it ends up sitting there not being enjoyed. The Fleurs de Prairie Rosé is one of these bottles. However, one fateful evening I opened our wine fridge to find I had no Rosé left other than this bottle. So I was forced (not that it was a hard decision) to open it and finally enjoy it!

I don’t know why I held onto this bottle for so long. I bought it at a chain bottle store and it was quite affordable. But for some reason, I subconsciously made the decision that this wine needed to be saved for a special occasion. I ended up enjoying it with friends I hadn’t seen in ages, so that’s special enough!

The Fleurs de Prairie Rosé is pretty inside and out

I have to start by saying that I am a sucker for two things: a Provence style Rosé and pretty packaging. The Fleurs de Prairie Rosé is both of these things rolled into one, so you may not understand why I hoarded it like a squirrel waiting for winter. The bottle design has to be one of the prettiest ones I’ve seen, and I’ve turned it into a lamp in my apartment because I love it so much. It rivals the Gerard Bertrand Rosé bottle which I also love, but because it is from Provence the Fleurs de Prairie Rosé has stolen my heart.

Provence style Rosé has a special place in my heart since we visited Provence last year. This region is arguably the most famous region for Rosé. You can see why when you sample the wines from there. Many of the wines from Provence are upwards of $30, so to find a wine that costs around $25 from Provence is incredible! For it to then exhibit all the classic flavours of a Provence style Rosé – dry, light and refreshing with a salmon hue – I was in Rosé heaven!

Why I love it

The Fleurs de Prairie Rosé is an absolutely delicious wine in oh so pretty packaging. For all you label lovers out there, the label is, I’ll admit, pretty boring. But the bottle makes up for it! And bonus: you can keep it for decoration! So it practically pays for itself is what I’m saying.

But let’s move past the exterior of this wine to talk about taste. The Fleurs de Prairie Rosé has a beautiful salmon colour and a good hit of fruit in the aroma. I’m talking strawberry, blackcurrant and a hint of lemon and herb. This wine smells so good and has a really intense aroma. But don’t be fooled, because when you taste it, the wine is super refreshing. It has delicate fruit flavours followed by bright and refreshing acidity. I enjoy a dry Rosé and this wine had the perfect balance for me, as most Provence wines do.

What to enjoy it with

The Fleurs de Prairie Rosé went down oh so well with old friends and catching up. We finished off the bottle all too quickly while we played some board games and had some laughs.

I think the ultimate time to enjoy this wine would be on a hot summers afternoon. It really lends itself to a good old day drink with its refreshing flavours. So consider grabbing a bottle for your next afternoon drinks!

Personally, I don’t think you need food to enjoy this wine. However, it would definitely go down well with an afternoon aperitif. Or some nice cheese and crackers!

The final word on the Fleurs de Prairie Rosé

I have to admit, I bought the Fleurs de Prairie Rosé purely on face value. I was drawn to the bottle, then I realised it was from Provence and was sold. However, after finally drinking this wine I’d been hoarding, I was so pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot, but this wine was really easy drinking and very enjoyable. Great for wines with friends, or just for sipping away a hot afternoon. I know I’ll definitely be grabbing a few more bottles to have on hand for summer!
