Wine review: The Flying Winemaker Little Pig Rosé

Continuing on the Rosé theme of the week with some more delightful Rosé! It doesn’t seem like I can get enough, and I’m ok with that! The Flying Winemaker Little Pig Rosé is not only a delicious wine, but it also has a cute label and a sweet story behind the name. This Rosé is an ode to the winemaker’s late grandmother (po po) who used to call him Little Pig as he was born in the Lunar Year of the Pig. What I love about this Rosé is that it’s got enough oomph to be a great pairing with food. The use of Syrah and Sangiovese grapes gives this wine a lovely texture, and it would go great alongside anything from seafood or roast salmon to even spicy dishes and curries.

On the nose, The Flying Winemaker Little Pig Rosé has lovely red berry fruit aromas along with a hint of citrus. Think strawberry and raspberry. This follows through into the palate which has a nice minerality to it, but also a lovely roundness. Its mouthfeel is luscious with a nice refreshing and crisp finish. This Rosé delivers complexity and balance with plenty to unpack all wrapped up in a refreshing and delectable wine.

About The Flying Winemaker

The Flying Winemaker was established in 2010 and has built its foundations on long-term relationships with grape growers and winemakers from across the globe. Australian Winemaker Eddie McDougall is the founder, and what started with the first release of Pinot Noir has steadily grown over the years. Their relationships with vineyard owners have naturally allowed for expansion across emerging and iconic regions. The Australia portfolio now houses wines from across the Margaret River, King Valley and McLaren Vale.

The Little Pig Rosé has emotional attachment and significance as it is named after Eddie’s late grandmother (po po) who used to call him Little Pig in Cantonese when he was growing up in Hong Kong. His po po was his inspiration and hero who was generous, respected and the best cook in the world.
