With the beginning of colder weather in Brisbane (it may not be Melbourne temps but it is cold ok), I was saddened that my Rosé drinking days may be numbered. Colder temperatures have me usually snuggling up with a nice glass of red wine, and not really feeling like a good old day drink. This time last year I was gearing up for our trip to France where I sipped on Rosé at every opportunity. So I am a little sad I don’t have this to look forward to this year. Over the weekend though we had some really nice weather, and an engagement party presented itself as the perfect opportunity! Enter the Blindside Margaret River Rosé.

I thought my Rosé drinking days were numbered, but I was reminded that where there’s a will and a decent excuse, there is always a way! Truly anyone can make up a day drinking Rosé excuse if they just believe! It’s so much more than a summer drink, and if you get your timing right, it can definitely be enjoyed over Autumn and Winter too! Or perhaps I’m just making excuses, but they are in the interests of #Roséallday so completely justified.

Blindside Margaret River Rosé is perfect for day drinking

So we were getting ready for an engagement party down in Byron Bay, and I was smart enough to think ahead and bring along some bottles of wine. I’m glad I did because what started as a rainy and cold morning ended up being beautiful. Beautiful, and the perfect time to enjoy Rosé. I mean sunshine, crisp air, the beach, love in the air…what more could you want? So I pulled out the bottle of Blindside Margaret River Rosé that I’d brought along and cracked it open.

When it comes to a sneaky day drink, Rosé is my beverage of choice. The typical dryness goes well on its own or with food, and the flavours and acidity make for a great midday refreshment. It goes well with food, but also can be enjoyed without. It can also easily be polished off into the evening, which is what I ended up doing with this very bottle. I can say when it comes to what I want in a Rosé, the Blindside Margaret River Rosé ticked all the boxes!

The Blindside Margaret River Rosé comes from Naked Wines, and it must be popular as someone else brought along exactly the same bottle after the engagement party! This was a happy accident to have indeed, as all I feel you really need in life on a Saturday afternoon is more delicious Rosé.

Why I love it

The main reason I loved the Blindside Margaret River Rosé was how easily it went down. It was very soft and subtle with its flavours with nothing too overpowering. The colour itself is quite strong and red from the Merlot grape, but don’t be fooled. This wine doesn’t have a big punch of flavour, but instead beautiful complexity that is quite subtle. It was really well balanced between being too sweet or too dry. Just right really.

The flavours you’ll get with this wine are soft floral notes in the aroma and also fresh berries. The berries come through in the taste too but a good hit of acidity at the end of the palate makes the Blindside Margaret River Rosé incredibly refreshing and delicious. It was far too easy to drink glass after glass of this one, which in my opinion makes it perfect for an afternoon drink!

What to enjoy it with

The Blindside Margaret River Rosé is perfect on its own. I wouldn’t overpower it with a meal, as the flavours are quite subtle and soft. It goes really well on its own, being enjoyed with a few friends on a sunny afternoon.

If I were to pair it with anything, some nice cheese or an antipasti plate would be my pick. Something you can nibble on while enjoying the sunset, and before moving onto something heavier in both a meal and a wine. The Blindside Margaret River Rosé was almost like a palate cleanser, leaving you wanting more and ready for the evening.

The final word

I’m so glad I packed the Blindside Margaret River Rosé to enjoy over the weekend. It was absolutely delicious and surprisingly subtle. I liked that it was so well balanced without being too dry or heavy in its sweetness. It was perfect for a sneaky day drink with friends that ends up lasting well into the evening.

For those that don’t like a Rosé that is too dry, or are just looking for something refreshing to drink, this is your wine. It is the perfect way to enjoy some good times soaking up the sun before it really does become too cold to enjoy drinking anything but red. Perhaps I’ll find however that there is always a good time for a sneaky Rosé regardless of the temperature outside. I feel I could definitely make this work.
