2021 Z Wine Levarin Bonvedro

by The Cheeky Vino

I love trying new varieties. So when Z Wines sent me a few of their wines to try and one was the 2021 Z Wine Levarin Bonvedro, you know your girl was right on it! I have never tried one before, and this wine was seriously tasty!

Janelle and Kristen Zerk are fifth-generation Barossans and are the only sister duo in the Barossa Valley who produce, own and operate their business. They have over 170 years of Barossa heritage behind them!

Bonvedro is originally from the Somontano region in Northern Spain where it is called Parraleta. It is quite widespread throughout the Iberian Peninsula and the western Mediterranean islands under many names including Bomvedro in Portugal. In Australia, it has often been confused with Carignan.

There are actually only four known vineyards in Australia with plantings of Bonvedro!

The 2021 Z Wine Levarin Bonvedro is seriously delicious and makes me wish we had more Bonvedro here! This wine is nice and light lending itself to being chilled. On the nose, I got really lovely notes of blackberry and blueberry alongside herb and a hint of floral. This followed through into the palate which was light and refreshing with a lovely crisp finish. This wine had a deep colour but was super refreshing – so don’t be fooled!

I think this wine is the perfect afternoon sipper to be paired with tapas or charcuterie. What I love about it is that you can enjoy this one young – no need to wait on cellaring.

This wine retails at $30 and can be found direct from Z Wine.
