Wine review: Vasse Felix Classic Dry Red 2025

If you’ve ever thought Cabernet Sauvignon was too serious for a casual Tuesday night, the Vasse Felix Classic Dry Red 2025 is here to change your mind. This is Margaret River doing what it does best, only lighter, breezier, and a whole lot more fun. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec, it’s estate grown and naturally fermented with wild yeast, with zero oak interference. The result is a medium-bodied red that’s all about fruit, freshness, and good vibes. Crack it open mid-week, chill it slightly before a BBQ, or just pour a glass because you deserve it.

The nose is instantly inviting with vibrant cassis, blackberry, and a beautiful floral lift of rose and violet that makes it feel a little bit special. On the palate, it’s juicy and bright with a creamy, luscious entry that just keeps delivering. The tannins are fine and gentle, giving it just enough shape to feel like a proper red without any of the heaviness. It’s the kind of wine that makes everyone at the table happy: the red wine lovers, the rosé drinkers, even the ones who “don’t really do reds.” Drink it young, drink it fresh, and drink it often.

About Vasse Felix

Vasse Felix was founded in 1967 by Dr Thomas Brendan Cullity, it holds the title of Margaret River’s very first wine estate. Dr Cullity’s mission was refreshingly straightforward: prove that this corner of Western Australia could produce something truly special. He did exactly that, releasing Margaret River’s first serious wines in 1972, a Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec and a Riesling, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Since 1987, the Holmes à Court family have been at the helm, with a long-game vision that spans generations. Their goal is for Vasse Felix and the Margaret River region to be thriving and world-regarded 100 years into the future. That kind of thinking shows in everything they do, from farming three exceptional estate vineyards, to their holistic approach to soil health and biodiversity. Leading the winemaking is Virginia, one of Australia’s most awarded winemakers, who has helmed the wine program since 2006. Born and raised on the WA coast with a deep love of nature, Virginia brings a genuine curiosity and creativity to every wine she makes. The result is a collection that ranges from celebrated Margaret River icons to approachable, contemporary styles, all made with care, minimal intervention, and a whole lot of soul.
