2018 Cimicky Autograph Shiraz

A seriously special Barossa Shiraz

by The Cheeky Vino

I hadn’t heard of Cimicky Wines before so I was very excited to have a chance to try their wines and learn more about them. So when I got the chance to try the 2018 Cimicky Autograph Shiraz and now I am hooked! I love a good Shiraz, and this one certainly ticked all the boxes.

Cimicky, located in the Barossa Valley was one of the first wineries in Australia. The property was originally settled all the way back in 1942! Karl Cimicky purchased the property in 1970. When Karl retired in the ’80s, his son Charles Cimicky and partner Jennie took over the business. Since then, Cimicky has been producing incredible wines and won Five Star Winery in James Halliday Wine Companion Australia 2021.

The 2018 Cimicky Autograph Shiraz was an absolute pleasure to sip on. On the nose, I got cherry and chocolate along with a hint of blackcurrant, coffee and spice.

What I loved so much about this wine was the flavours on the palate. It was juicy with cherries and plums along with a delicious spice. Each sip offered more and more to unpack but it was also beautifully balanced. This wine is nice and soft with a long finish that I loved.

Whether you want to pop it away into the cellar or enjoy it now, the 2018 Cimicky Autograph Shiraz is something seriously special. It is perfect as a gift too if you can part with it! At $50 it is not for everyday drinking, unless your budget allows, but it is perfect for a special occasion.
