Wine review: Zilzie Wines Platinum Edition Cabernet Sauvignon

As the weather cools down, I start to turn to more full-bodied reds. I actually love cooking winter meals much more than summer meals, and so I get really excited when there are more opportunities for slow roasts and heavy wines. Something about it just makes it feel so cozy. So when I was sent the Zilzie Wines Platinum Edition Cabernet Sauvignon to try, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to make my first slow-roasted lamb of the year! A nice comforting meal and this delicious Cabernet Sauvignon truly is a match made in heaven.

On the nose, the Zilzie Wines Platinum Edition Cabernet Sauvignon is packed full of blackcurrant, a hint of plum and beautiful spice. There is also a hint of that classic mint that goes with Cab Sav oh so well, but not enough that it overpowers it. The palate is rich and ripe with blackcurrant and plum that’s nicely balanced by spice. The mint adds even more balance to the palate, leaving you wanting more sip after sip. The tannins are nicely rounded yet have just enough that you could age the wine. But honestly why wait? This wine is perfect for winter sipping!

About Zilzie Wines

Recently shortlisted in the 2023 Halliday Dark Horse Winery of the Year, Zilzie Wines come from consistent dedication and tireless work for four generations.

Their story starts in the early 1900s when their ancestors moved from Scotland to Australia, making their way to a farming community 20km south of Mildura. The name Zilzie comes from their family’s Scottish heritage and was the name given to the first home built on the property.  For the family, the winery is a living, breathing entity representing years of passion and unity. They want to create the best possible wines from different regions of Australia for those special moments in life.
