I was recently sent the cutest pack from Taylors wine for summer sipping. I was so excited to get this pack but especially excited because it included a Shiraz I’ve already tried.

We have two friends who love Shiraz and will always choose a classic when it comes to bringing wine along to dinner. Nothing wrong with knowing what you love! A few months ago they had us over for dinner and they brought out a bottle of the Taylors Estate Label Shiraz saying they’d never tried it before but chosen it because of all the medal stickers on it.

I’m not usually one to pick wines with these stickers on them (I’m more likely to go for a pretty label if I’m honest) but I’m also never one to shy away from trying a new wine. And I absolutely loved this wine. I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was for the price point, and since trying it that night we’ve had it a couple of times with them since.

About Taylors

Taylors Estate Label Shiraz

Taylors is an institution of Australian wine and it is easy to see why. Their long-standing association with the Clare Valley began in the late 1950s. At the time they were Sydney wine merchants and partnered with the Clare Valley Co-operative to bottle and distribute their own wines under the Chateau Clare label.

The Taylor family were inspired by the wines of Bordeaux and wanted to craft the best wines in the world. So in 1969, they bought a site by the Wakefield River in South Australia’s Clare Valley.

Taylors is a family-owned wine company resting on the principle that the finest wines are those made with the greatest dedication and care, as well as respecting the fruit. They’re also committed to operating in a responsible and sustainable manner across their operations.

What I loved about the Taylors Estate Label Shiraz 2019

Taylors Estate Label Shiraz

After reading up about the Taylors Estate Label Shiraz I know why my partner is so obsessed with it. This wine is matured on American oak for 12 months, giving it a different flavour profile to what you might be used to. American oak imparts stronger flavours into the wine of vanilla, chocolate and coffee (sometimes even coconut!). It isn’t used that much in Australia so finding a wine using American oak can be tricky. So if you haven’t tried it before and want to, this wine is a great option.

I absolutely love the Taylors Estate Label Shiraz because it is simply delicious and delivers everything you want from a Shiraz at an affordable price. Sure you could spend more on a bottle of wine, but this wine is simply tasty and for that, I would call it good value. It’s perfect for a dinner with friends or a midweek wine – the kind of wine you don’t need to think twice about opening. This is why we’ve found ourselves going back to it again and again.

The Taylors Estate Label Shiraz is juicy and lively, packed full of red berry fruits of plum and cherry at the front. This is beautifully balanced by those oak influences on the wine. Think spice, chocolate and vanilla. These flavours smooth out the wine and give it a softness that makes it absolutely delicious. I love the texture of the wine too with its nice tannin structure and long finish. It’s truly a joy to sip on from start to finish.

What to enjoy it with

The Taylors Estate Label Shiraz is a bold red best enjoyed with food with its big, bold flavours. I know it is obvious, but BBQ or steak is such a great pairing with Shiraz, and it would be perfect with this wine. Any grilled meat would also go so well.

As I said above, this wine is really affordable and the sort of wine you don’t need to think twice about opening. It would be great at your next BBQ with friends or even for a midweek sip.

In summary: Taylors Estate Label Shiraz 2019

The Taylors Estate Label Shiraz is simply delicious. Juicy fruit flavours are balanced by oak notes of vanilla, spice and everything nice (chocolate of course). This wine is just a joy to sip on and the kind of wine you don’t need to think too much about opening. It’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser at your next BBQ.
