5 reasons to love rosé

by The Cheeky Vino

Ah, rosé. It’s no secret that I am obsessed with it. In fact, I could drink it all year round. That’s not just because I live in Brisbane and it is warm all year round either! The fact is that I think rosé is the perfect all-rounder for any occasion. But I also think sometimes it is given a bad rap, and not seen as a serious wine. Why is that? I guess maybe its history as a sickly sweet, mass-produced wine has left it feeling a little unloved. But as probably rosé’s number one advocate, I am here to change that. So here are 5 reasons to love rosé. I hope this article inspires you to pick up a bottle of the pink stuff next time you’re looking for a wine.

1. There are so many styles of rosé to discover

You’d be forgiven for thinking that all rosé is the same. But truth be told, there is so much variety to discover in rosé. Really, no two rosé’s are the same! This is because you can make a rosé from any red grape. So there are so many flavours to discover depending on the grape variety, the winemaking process (particularly how long the skins are left in contact with the wine), and region too. It really is far more versatile than people give it credit for. So whether you love a classic Provence style, or want something deeper and more food worthy, you can discover it in rosé. Hey, even if you like sweet wine there is something for you!

2. Rosé is the perfect beverage to take you from day to night

One of the main reasons to love rosé for me is how versatile it is in pairing it to occasions. It is the perfect wine whether you are heading out on a picnic, fancy and afternoon wine down, or want a wine to pair with lunch or dinner. Because it is so versatile in its flavour profile, there is a wine that matches all occasions. Enjoy a lighter style with friends of an afternoon or with a picnic. Or opt for something bolder to pair with a Summer dinner or a long lunch. No matter what the occasion a rosé is always going to be a good time.

3. It’s versatile when it comes to food pairings

There is a bit of a misconception that rosé is not that great for pairing with food and shouldn’t be enjoyed with an evening meal. But rosé is so versatile and with that comes the ability to pair it with many foods. Whether you want to enjoy a cheese board with friends or dig into some grilled meat and seafood, rosé is here to be the perfect chilled pairing. Lighter styles are perfect when paired with an afternoon apertivo or snack, or even a picnic spread. Bolder wines can be paired with anything from pizza and pasta to grilled meats and seafood.

4. There’s no need to cellar them before enjoying them

With so many wines it is recommended that you keep them for a few years before enjoying them to allow the wine to further develop flavours and complexity. But there is no need to do this with rosé! No, you can just enjoy it right away and get that instant gratification. This means it’s so easy to go and pick one up when you need it without having to worry about if you’re getting the most out of your wine purchase. Whilst there are certain styles of rosé you can cellar, you don’t need to with most. This is one of the great reasons to love rosé.

5. You can enjoy it still or sparkling

There are so many styles to enjoy when it comes to rosé, but you can also enjoy it still or sparkling. Whether you want a refreshing still wine or something with a little sparkle, there is something for everyone. Sparkling rosé can be found in Champagne, Sparkling wines and now even Prosecco. The opportunities are endless when it comes to enjoying rosé.

In summary: 5 reasons to love rosé

I hope these 5 reasons to love rosé have inspired you to pick up a bottle of pink next time you’re shopping for wine. Summer is the perfect time for enjoying it, so why not soak up the sun with a glass of rosé in hand? Better yet, bring that summer feeling into the rest of the year! With rosé being so versatile, you truly can enjoy it all year round, no matter what the occasion.
