Wine review: MF Wine Barossa Valley Syrah

Recently I was sent a wine that you might not have seen before: A Barossa Syrah. Now we know Syrah and Shiraz are the same things, but we are seeing more wines labelled Syrah coming out of the Barossa to highlight the difference in style between wines like this, and the jammy, full-bodied Shiraz we know the Barossa for. Unlike those wines, the MF Wine Barossa Valley Syrah is more of a juicy and elegant style that is perfect for enjoying now. It’s perfect if you want to discover something different from the Barossa, or if you prefer more approachable, vibrant red wines. This wine would be right at home at a barbeque with friends. No need to wait to crack it open!

The nose of the MF Wine Barossa Valley Syrah is beautifully aromatic with notes of black cherry, blackcurrant and spice, along with a slight floral touch. The fruit and spice follow through into the palate that is juicy, vibrant and approachable in its style. It isn’t too overpowering in its flavours (despite the high ABV) and has some lovely complexity in the play between fruit and spice on the palate. There are plenty of layers to unpack that are nicely balanced. This Syrah also has a nice, long finish that stays with you long after you take a sip. Honestly, it’s just tasty drinking!

About MF Wine

Mark has spent the better half of the last two decades tasting wine every day as a wine buyer. He found that most of the time, handcrafted and authentic wines stood out for their quality and value, but often aren’t given the spotlight they deserve.

He’d always wanted to make his own boutique wine. In 2022 there was an opportunity to buy some quality grapes from a vineyard in the Barossa, and MF Wine was born. Mark wants to help people experience the enjoyment of discovering something new by using his palate to craft wines he likes to drink. The wines are handmade and thoughtfully crafted with a sense of place.

You can purchase this wine from MF Wine website.

Note: This wine was sent as a sample. I was under no obligation to post about it.
