Wine review: Tahbilk Riesling

The Tahbilk Riesling 2022 is a bright and punchy Riesling that is drinking beautifully now but that could also be aged to develop complexity. It’s the kind of wine you could take anywhere that is sure to please a crowd and is really affordable. Perfect for Spring and Summer sipping, this wine would be at home at a picnic with friends as much as cracking open midweek.

What I love about the Tahbilk Riesling 2022 is that it has a beautifully fruity nose and palate that is beautifully balanced by a crisp finish that makes it really satisfying and refreshing. Notes of lime, citrus and grapefruit come together along with a subtle hint of spice in the aroma and follow through to the palate. This is nicely structured with palate-cleansing refreshment which means the wine can withstand aging to develop rich, honey complexity. That’s if you can wait long enough to crack it open!

About Tahbilk

Established in 1860 Tahbilk is one of Australia’s most beautiful and historic family-owned wineries. Located in the Nagambie Lakes region of central Victoria (120kms north of Melbourne), the property was purchased by the Purbrick family in 1925. Now Tahbilk is home to 5 generations.

The name is derived from the location which the local aboriginal people first referred to as “tabilk-tabilk”, meaning “place of many waterholes”.

Tahbilk is home to the largest single planting of Marsanne in the world and some of the oldest Shiraz plantings dating back to 1860. They use traditional winemaking techniques to let the grapes shine.

You can find out more about this wine at the Tahbilk website. This wine is also available at select retailers.
