The Yering Station 2024 Reserve Chardonnay is one of those wines that makes you go “ooh” the second you put your nose in the glass. This is the winery’s top-of-the-range Chardonnay, only made in their very best years using their very best grapes, and it shows. It smells like roasted hazelnuts, lemon, nectarine and a squeeze of lime, with a little smoky, flinty note in there too that gives it complexity. It’s intense from the outset, the kind of glass that makes you pause before you even take a sip.

Take a sip, and it’s just as exciting. There’s zesty citrus and tangy nectarine up front, with a lovely richness through the middle that gives the wine a real sense of weight in your mouth without feeling heavy. The wine has lovely nutty notes and a hint of crème brûlée and lots to unpack with real depth and weight. The finish is long and refreshing thanks to some really lovely zippy acidity. This one is delicious to drink right now, but if you’re the patient type, it’ll happily sit in your cellar and get even better for years to come.

About Yering Station

Yering Station is Victoria’s first vineyard, with vines going back to 1838. Established by the pioneering Ryrie brothers and now lovingly stewarded by the Rathbone family since 1996, this is a place with almost two centuries of history woven into every bottle. Spread across five sites in the Yarra Glen and Coldstream sub-regions, the vineyards are managed with a combination of precision viticulture technology and a lot of careful hands-on work, all in pursuit of the best possible fruit.

The Yarra Valley is widely considered Australia’s premier cool-climate wine region, and Yering Station sits at its heart. The focus here is on expressive, varietally true wines that reflect the place they come from, and that reputation has earned them admirers well beyond Australia.
