You know, I am not always one to go for Shiraz. I’m not sure why this is – I guess it comes down to it being quite a heavy red wine. I find it sometimes a bit overwhelming for me, which is the complete opposite of my partner who loves it! But when I find a Shiraz that is a little on the lighter, fruitier side, I absolutely love it! It makes me think that really I should be drinking more of this diverse variety!

The Nashdale Lane Wines 2018 Colour Series Shiraz from Nashdale Lane Wines is one of those wines that ticks all the boxes for me, and so if you’re anything like me, this wine will be right up your alley! Now that the temperature is dropping, these deeper and heavier wines are perfect for sipping to warm up over a delicious comforting meal!

The Nashdale Lane Wines 2018 Colour Series Shiraz goes down easy

Nashdale Lane Wines 2018 Colour Series Shiraz

Nashdale Lane Wines is based in Orange, NSW. It was started in 1999 with a dream in Tuscany, Italy. In 2006 the owners found a 60 acre established vineyard in Orange to make this dream a reality. After many years touring the world and experiencing working across different wine regions, they brought this knowledge to their new home and started Nashdale Lane Wines. They now produce a range of great cool-climate wines across three ranges.

The Nashdale Lane Wines 2018 Colour Series Shiraz is part of the ‘Colour Series’ which showcases their vineyard as high quality traditional white and red varietals. These wines can be aged or enjoyed now, and I’m certainly glad I opened this Shiraz now!

Why I loved it

The Nashdale Lane Wines 2018 Colour Series Shiraz is plain delicious. It is a little on the heavier side at 13.5%, but not overwhelming. The aromas are full of spice and raspberry as well as a hint of cherry for me and other red fruits. On the palate, I got these same flavours, but also oak influence with more vanilla coming through. This gave the wine a really delicious flavour. The tannins were silky and I found the wine was nice and rounded meaning it was well-balanced between its flavours. I think the tannins were not overpowering and so it was drinking well now or could be aged for a few years to further develop the flavours. But if you like fruit-forward red, this will be your jam!

So who will love this wine? Well if you’re looking for something on the heavier side that is still easy to drink and doesn’t overwhelm your palate, this wine is for you! It’s easy drinking but still a great food wine, and fruit-forward so it feels fresh. A hint of spice keeps it interesting and balanced, along with silky tannins to finish. I felt like this was an absolutely delicious Shiraz all-round which would really please anyone!

What to enjoy it with

Nashdale Lane Wines 2018 Colour Series Shiraz

The Nashdale Lane Wines 2018 Colour Series Shiraz is definitely a food wine. It has a medium-full body and so is best paired with a meal. But its flavours really lend it to enjoying it with food, so you are sure to have a good meal! Personally? I would pair this wine with BBQ – think some beautiful steaks or grilled lamb. You could also pair it with roast lamb or beef quite easily. We paired this with some slow-roasted lamb shanks and it honestly was a winter match made in heaven!

My Summary: Nashdale Lane Wines 2018 Colour Series Shiraz

The Nashdale Lane Wines 2018 Colour Series Shiraz is a beautiful Shiraz that is really approachable and drinking so well now. You could cellar it for a few years, but honestly, I really enjoy how it’s drinking now. It’s fruity with a hint of spice and vanilla, making it beautifully balanced and perfect with food. I really enjoyed this as an alternative to those big, bold Shiraz wines from Barossa and the Hunter Valley. So if you are looking for something alternate in your Shiraz, along with some fruit-driven flavours, check this out!
