Wine review: Clandestine Vineyards Shiraz

As the weather gets colder, I love getting into those wines that are perfect with comfort food. And the Clandestine Vineyards Shiraz is the perfect comfort wine! Not only does it go so well with those winter-warming meals, but it is also the kind of wine you can really sit and unpack. It’s got a lot going on that comes together beautifully, with so many layers of complexity that really makes it a taste sensation. I love wines that keep you guessing, and this wine has it all wrapped in a soft and elegant palate. I haven’t had much Shiraz from Western Australia and this one made me think I need to seek it out more.

On the nose, the Clandestine Vineyards Shiraz has lovely floral and spice alongside cherry. The palate has notes of cherry and raspberry along with earthy notes, spice and a hint of minerality. I loved the play between juicy and savoury notes across the palate. Pepper and spice rounds out the finish which is rounded, soft and elegant. This wine hangs around long after you take a sip, allowing you to really soak up those delicious flavours. Simply tasty from start to finish!

About Clandestine Vineyards

Clandestine Vineyards’ focus is to represent 100% varietal wines from single vineyard sites across the best sub-regions for those varietals. Growers are chosen for best organic vineyard practices, zero harmful pesticides/herbicides and commitment to sustainability.

Coordinating 14 separate vineyards, two winemakers and two processing facilities across two states (WA and SA) is no easy task, especially in a pandemic, but Clandestine Vineyards takes it in their stride to produce incredible wines based on longstanding relationships and the founders, Nick and Trudy’s, vision for every vintage.
