This week I wanted to share with you a delicious wine that I was lucky enough to try all the way from Riverland in South Australia. And if you are a lover of wine labels like me, you’re in for a treat with this one! The wine is the Gatch Wines Rosé 2019. They keep it simple, offering a red, a white and a Rosé. Personally I love this approach because it means that you don’t have to get caught up in all the in’s and out’s of the wine, you can just focus on drinking it! Getting back to the simple pleasures in life.

Gatch Wines Rosé 2019 is just easy drinking goodness

Gatch Wines Rosé 2019

Gatch Wines are based in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. They were fortunate enough to not have their winery impacted by the recent bushfires, however, are part of the community trying to rebuild after the devastation. It’s always a good thing to support Australian wine, but now more than ever being able to help these affected communities is critical in this time.

The Gatch Wines Rosé 2019 is made with 100% Mataro grapes from Riverland. I’ve had a few wines from this area and I’m always impressed. For a wine region that was known for its bulk production, there are now more and more unique wines coming out of this region that are just plain delicious.

We cracked this wine open to unwind on a Friday night after a long working week. Is there anything better than a good glass of wine, or two, before dinner to help you settle in? I think not!

Why I loved it

Gatch Wines Rosé 2019

The first thing that really intrigued me about the Gatch Wines Rosé 2019 was the colour. It is a really bright almost orange colour in the glass. It’s absolutely beautiful and so different from the soft pink of many of the wines of the moment.

When I first smelt the wine, I thought it was quite sweet. It had a syrupy smell, but also a hint of spice. It smelt a lot heavier than some of the other wines I’ve had recently, but I was intrigued! In the glass, it kept on giving. Think spicy cherries, red fruit and a good savoury hit. This isn’t a floral, light style Rosé, it’s one that packs a punch!

So what does this mean for you? Well if you’re in the market for something different in your Rosé, something deeper, darker and more mysterious, this wine is for you. It’s packed full of unique flavours that are truly delicious, and leave you wanting another glass so you can mull over the complexity. If you’re into lighter style wines, this might not be for you. But if you want something heavy hitting that will hold its own at the dinner table, you’ve met your match!

What to enjoy it with

Gatch Wines Rosé 2019

The Gatch Wines Rosé 2019 is a heavier style wine with plenty of flavours, so I would definitely pair this with food. Although you could enjoy it before dinner, I think it would be best suited to the dinner table, or a nice plater of delicious meats and cheeses.

What would I pair this one with? It screams BBQ. This wine would be right at home with some grilled meats and salads. Its savoury flavours would really complement the meats and wouldn’t be lost. It can be hard to find a Rosé that holds its own with a BBQ, so rejoice for you have found your match!

The final word on the Gatch Wines Rosé 2019

Gatch Wines Rosé 2019

The Gatch Wines Rosé 2019 is a perfect accompaniment to food, which can be hard to find in a Rosé. It isn’t a typical delicate style with floral flavours, but its beautiful savoury and spicy notes really compliment the fruity flavours. If you are in the market for something different that packs a punch with its flavour but is still refreshing, look no further! This wine is perfect with BBQ, meaning it is right at home across your summer.
