You’ll enjoy it if: You like slightly more fruity Rosé
So I know the rest of Australia is in full blown winter, but the weather seems to have not received the memo here. In Brisbane it seems one week it will be freezing, the next it is Rosé weather once again. It’s making me feel like I’m back in Melbourne all this unpredictable weather! I mean of course minus the freezing cold all the time Melbourne winter. But anyway – this milder winter means that my Rosé consumption is going at a consistent pace, and I am 100% ok with that. Especially when it means I can crack open the good stuff like this Brini 2017 Rosé.
I find Rosé to be the perfect in between weather drink. I mean I can only really fathom drinking white in warm weather (Chardonnay excepted), but when it comes to Rosé I can enjoy it all seasons. Is anyone else the same? I just think it goes with so many different flavours, temperatures and occassions. It is the perfect versatile wine in my humble opinion. Plus, it is so delicious that I truly will make it work regardless of the weather. What can I say? I just love the stuff!
The Brini 2017 Rosé is delicious and well priced
So the wine we ended up opening one warm Sunday afternoon was the Brini 2017 Rosé. This was one of my favourites that we picked up at the Good Food and Wine show last year, and I was sort of saving it for a special occasion. But my partner, who is notoriously good for getting me to open the stuff I’m hoarding, picked it out of our wine fridge on Sunday. There wasn’t a special occasion, it was just a quiet night in for us. But something about it felt like the perfect time to give this bottle a go. Plus we didn’t have to share which is something I’m very glad of!
Brini Wines is in McLaren Vale and was started by Sebastiano Brini. He arrived in 1950 with next to nothing and didn’t speak a word of English. He then purchased land in 1953 and grew Brini Wines from there. I love this story, especially because it involves Italy (I am biased what can I say). It’s so great to see those humble beginnings made this winery the winery it is today, and boy is it good! We bought a couple of bottles from them last year, and I’m keen to get down to McLaren Vale for a visit. Their wines were so different, interesting and delicious, I kind of wish I’d bought a couple more!
Why I loved it
The first thing I love about the Brini 2017 Rosé is the colour. It has a soft salmon colour to it which reminds me of the Provence style Rosé that I know and love. However, this Rosé is anything but soft. Instead, it is packed full of crisp, vibrant flavours. It has a great acidity to it which makes it very refreshing, along with a palate of red fruits such as cherry. I really enjoyed the balance between the hit of fruit which I thought might be a bit too much at first and the balance of dryness at the end of the palate. It was a bottle of complimentary wine, and all too easy to drink. We polished this off well before dinner, and let me tell you there wasn’t much time between cracking this bottle open and eating.
I am normally not a fan of fruity Rosé and whilst I thought that this wine might have a bit too much fruit, I found I was pleasantly surprised by the flavour. The balance and length of this wine were great, and I think anyone who enjoys Rosé, regardless of dry or slightly sweet, will like this wine. It was a great balanced wine meaning it would be great for drinking with friends! That is if you want to share because I certainly didn’t!
On another note, check out the label! I am a sucker for good labels, and I love the artwork on this one. It represents a vine, and it is so pretty to look at!
What to enjoy it with
The Brini 2017 Rosé went perfectly on its own if I’m honest. I really enjoyed sipping on this while relaxing into a Sunday afternoon, sitting on the balcony and watching the world go by. However, it would also go great with a tasty antipasti board – think delicious cured meats, olives and cheese.
If you want to pair it with dinner, think light summery foods. Seafood would be a great pairing, but you could also put it with a nice light chicken or vegetarian salad. The kind of food you enjoy on a long summer day. Or you can be like me and sip on this wine thinking of those warm summer days!
The final word on the Brini 2017 Rosé
My partner as always was completely right in opening this bottle. It was the perfect accompaniment to a Sunday afternoon. Despite my efforts to squirrel this one away, I think it was better off being enjoyed! I am so glad we opened it and I got to try it once again. It reminded me why I need to get down to McLaren Vale stat!
The Brini 2017 Rosé is perfect for all Rosé lovers. The balance between sweet and dry won’t offend anyone, and if it does you’ll be glad because there’s all the more for you! And at less than $20 a bottle, I think you should buy a few just to make sure you have a few on hand.
