If you haven’t tried a Sangiovese Rosé before, this wine is sure to win you over! The Vino Intrepido Wines Sangiovese Rosé 2019 is perfect with or without food and has a great texture and complexity to it. Expect notes of strawberry, spice and savoury all in one sip! 

Last month I was right in with all the red wines because, you know, winter. But this week I had to share a beautiful Rosé I enjoyed with friends over the weekend that was easy drinking enough to enjoy without food but had enough body and depth of flavour that you could enjoy it with food. Translation? If you are in the mood for Rosé but it’s cold out, this could be the wine for you.

I am all for enjoying Rosé all year round, and because I live in a warm climate I can usually get away with it. But it can be good to find those wines that you can easily enjoy with food, even for summer. Sometimes I feel like Rosé should be enjoyed before dinner, but there are some great examples out there that break the mould and the result is truly delicious. The Vino Intrepido Wines Sangiovese Rosé 2019 is one of these, and shocker – it isn’t a Provence style wine!

There’s actually a great story behind the Vino Intrepido Wines Sangiovese Rosé 2019. James was planning to make a Rosé from Pinot Grigio, but at the last minute decided to make this into a white wine. So instead, he turned to Sangiovese. One of my personal favourites, this grape makes Rosé with a slight bronze tinge, fresh red fruits and savoury notes.

Why I loved it

The Vino Intrepido Wines Sangiovese Rosé 2019 certainly delivers in delicious flavours. It has a beautiful deep slightly golden colour to it that looks beautiful in the glass. It is quite an aromatic wine with flavours of strawberry and spice, but also some earthy tones – think hay and fennel. These flavours carry on into the mouth and make the wine deliciously savoury with a hint of sweetness from strawberry and raspberry.

What I loved about this wine was that it was so crisp and refreshing whilst also packing a punch of flavour. There was a lot of texture to the wine but it had a lovely crisp finish that left you wanting another sip. This is why I think this wine will go so well with food – it has enough to it in terms of its body and complexity, but its crisp finish leaves it feeling refreshing. I find with some heavier Rosés they can be a bit overpowering on the palate, but this wine was so balanced and just plain delicious.

What to enjoy it with

The great thing about the Vino Intrepido Wines Sangiovese Rosé 2019 is you can really enjoy it with anything. We had it over a nice light picnic of cheese and dips, but I think you could easily enjoy it without food. It has a lovely refreshing character to it that means without food you’ll still enjoy it.

However, this wine could also be enjoyed with food. A light Italian salad or prosciutto dish would be a great accompaniment to this wine, as the Italians would do. However, you could also pair this wine with a nice Thai meal – think delicious curries. The flavours would really lend themselves to this sort of food.

The Vino Intrepido Wines Sangiovese Rosé 2019 is the perfect wine for lovers of crisp Rosé or more full-bodied wines. It’s got a great complexity of flavours with strawberries, spice and savoury notes all coming together into a beautifully textural wine. It left me wanting sip after sip, and I could easily see myself enjoying a bottle with a light meal, or simply passing the afternoon away in the sun.
