If you’ve been following the blog for a while, you’ll know I’m not the biggest white wine drinker. Ápart from Chardonnay I usually wind up looking for Sparkling or Rosé as the weather warms up. But this week I wanted to share with you a Pinot Grigio that knocked my socks off, and really made me rethink this whole white wine thing. Maybe I’ve just haven’t found the one, and I’m starting to fall in love all over again!

About Cloak and Dagger

The Dagger Pinot Grigio 2019

Cloak and Dagger is from winemakers Callie Jemmeson and Nina Stocker from the King Valley. They believe winemaking doesn’t need barriers. All it needs is quality, focus and destination. Their wines are made for being plain delicious and to be enjoyed with food and friends. If that isn’t right up my alley I don’t know what is! Their range is carefully curated but designed to give you a wine for every occasion.

Their name came from two of their wines – this Pinot Grigio which was named the Dagger for its sharp acidity, and the Cloak Sangiovese with its velvety tannins. Even their labels are designed to take you on a journey giving you hints on how the wine will taste before you even open the bottle! If you are in the mood for a cute label, as I always am, these wines will be right up your alley!

Why I loved The Dagger Pinot Grigio 2019

The Dagger Pinot Grigio 2019

The Dagger Pinot Grigio 2019 from Cloak & Dagger was absolutely delicious. I can say with great confidence that this wine is seriously drinkable from our experience. We were meant to enjoy this with dinner, but it was so good we polished it off while we were making it!

The first thing about this Pinot Grigio is its colour. It has a lovely pinky tinge which makes it really unusual and beautiful to look at. On the nose, I got pears and citrus that really jumped out of the glass. Along with this, there was some nice ripe peach. Flavour-wise I loved how zippy this wine was. Its crisp acidity went so well with flavours of citrus, apple and pear. The wine was incredibly balanced with a great refreshing and crisp finish.

Overall this wine is perfect for Spring and Summer. It is so refreshing, easy drinking and absolutely delicious! I love how aromatic it is on the nose, followed by a nice texture and crispness in the wine. You’ll find it all too easy to drink!

What to enjoy it with

The Dagger Pinot Grigio 2019

We were thinking of enjoying this wine with some Spaghetti Carbonara, but because it was so delicious we polished it off well before we sat down for dinner! Making pasta from scratch is thirsty work, and it’s easy to polish off such a refreshing wine.

The Dagger Pinot Grigio 2019 will go perfectly with summer dishes. Think light pasta sauces (no tomatoes here) or even an antipasti situation. It would also go very well with seafood such as grilled fish. Think light flavours for this wine and you can’t really go wrong!

In summary: The Dagger Pinot Grigio 2019

The Dagger Pinot Grigio was absolutely delicious and perfectly refreshing for summer. It is aromatic, packed full of fruity pear, peach and apple, and with a zippy citrus to make this wine oh so refreshing. Enjoy it with light pasta, seafood or antipasti for a taste sensation. This wine is sure to be a crowd-pleaser!
