A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to try the My Favourite Rosé subscription box from Cellarmasters. The December box came with three different Rosés to try, along with a little surprise! One of the wines in the box was the Krondorf Growers Barossa Grenache Rosé 2019 and it was the first one I tried. I loved it so much I thought it deserved its own review.
We all know I love Provence style Rosé but I’ve been trying to branch out and try new regions and varieties. Although previously I haven’t had that much Australian Rosé, I feel like the subscription box from Cellarmasters has really helped to broaden my horizons. And it’s meant I’ve discovered great wines like this one!
The Krondorf Growers Barossa Grenache Rosé 2019
The Krondorf Growers Barossa Grenache Rosé 2019 is part of the Growers range from Krondorf in the Barossa Valley. Each wine recognises dedicated growers – Randolph & Anita Bowen. Their focus with this range is on utilising quality grapes from the Barossa Valley to produce excellent wines. I think they’ve nailed this one!
This wine is made from 100% Grenache grapes which give it an intensity of flavour. I love Grenache generally, particularly in Rosé. So I knew this wine was going to be right up my alley. It is part of the mix that makes up Provence Rosé too, so you can expect that a Grenache Rosé is going to have some similar characteristics to those Salmon hued wines from France.
Why I loved it
The Krondorf Growers Barossa Grenache Rosé 2019 has such a beautiful colour. It is a pale pink with a slight orange hue. Not quite salmon but getting there! The wine had a great smell – think fresh fruits like pomegranate, rhubarb and red berries like cranberry and strawberry. This was rounded out by a hint of spice which I loved.
The palate was absolutely incredible in this wine. You definitely got fruit at the front with those red berries and slight citrus flavours. This citrus wasn’t very acidic so the wine itself was quite soft. This made the wine very light drinking, whilst still having a crisp and fresh taste. It isn’t as dry as a Provence wine, but certainly had a very complex flavour that made it all too easy to drink! I’m so glad I have more than one bottle to enjoy!
What to enjoy it with
The Kronforf Growers Barossa Grenache Rosé is quite soft on the palate so I would say it goes best before dinner, with a light snack or without food. It has a complexity that is best savoured without food taking over. It is the perfect option for sipping on a hot summer’s day as it isn’t too strong and overpowering. You could easily polish a bottle off without thinking too much about it.
If you do want to pair it with a meal, I suggest seafood, prawns or something light like a salad. Don’t overpower this wine with strong flavours as it will drown it out!
The final word on the Krondorf Growers Barossa Grenache Rosé 2019
The Kronforf Growers Barossa Grenache Rosé 2019 was absolutely delicious. I loved trying a new style of Rosé and was certainly not disappointed with this one. It makes me think I need to seek out some more Grenache ones as I enjoyed this one so much. It was complex without being overpowering, and the soft flavours and acidity made for an easy-drinking, enjoyable wine!
This wine was part of the My Favourites Rosé subscription. This service brings you quality wines three times a year. Each box has three Rosés and you get four of each, to make sure you can go back to the ones you love! It’s a great way to explore new wines, and really affordable too!
