You’ll enjoy it if: You like your Rosé with balance and length
The Jim Barry Jb Rosé 2018 is a beautifully balanced Grenache Rosé from the Clare Valley. It delivers on complex flavours whilst being super refreshing and easy to drink. Perfect for a pre-dinner drink, you could also pair this nicely with seafood.
These summer temperatures have got me reaching for the Rosé like it’s going out of fashion! Something about Rosé on a hot summer’s day just makes everything better. I’ve been finding it hard to drink much else! And when you’ve got wines like the Jim Barry Jb Rosé 2018 sitting in your wine cellar, it’s not hard to see why I’m tempted.
As part of the Cellarmasters My Favourites Rosé subscription, I was sent four bottles of the Jim Barry Jb Rosé 2018, along with two other fabulous wines to try. I have to say it’s been so nice having a few extra bottles of this one as back up because I have become absolutely obsessed! It was a great start to this annual subscription service and is probably another reason why I’ve been hitting the Rosé hard this summer. I mean, it would be rude not to, right?
You’re going to love the Jim Barry Jb Rosé 2018
Jim Barry is well known for helping to put Clare Valley on the map, and honestly, you can see why with wines like this one. Clare Valley is known for its incredible riesling, but I think with wines like this I wouldn’t be surprised if they start being known for their Rosé too!
You know I am normally a fan of Provence Rosé, but I am making an effort to get into more Australian wines. There are so many different styles and regions to try, it’s like being a kid in a candy store! And when you come across wines like this Jim Barry Jb Rosé 2018 it reminds me why I need to step out of my Provence bubble more often! This wine, in particular, is made from 100% Grenache grapes which is a style I’ve really been enjoying of late. It’s like having a hint of Provence in every glass.
Why I loved it
The Jim Barry Jb Rosé 2018 starts off with a beautiful colour in the glass. It has that Provence style salmon hue to it that I love. On the nose, it has quite a strong aroma of strawberries and red cherries. I also got a hint of floral notes. However, the palate and taste are where this wine really shines.
Upfront you get a kick of red fruits and summer berries. Think strawberries, cherries and raspberries. This is rounded off by a hint of spice which I thought really balanced out the wine. It meant that it wasn’t too sweet. This was followed by a nice hit of acidity. It didn’t make the wine too dry, but also drew out the length of the flavour. This made the wine quite complex to drink but also easy drinking all at the same time.
So who will like this wine? Well if you are a lover of bone dry Rosé this wine isn’t probably for you. It is slightly dry but quite balanced with a hint of subtle sweetness. This sweetness didn’t overpower the wine though. I think this wine is perfect for people looking for something refreshing to enjoy on a hot summer’s day. It is well-balanced and easy-drinking all at the same time.
What to enjoy it with
The Jim Barry Jb Rosé 2018 doesn’t need any food pairings to enjoy it with. I really enjoyed it as a pre-dinner drink before we sat down to our meal. It gives you a chance to cool down and enjoy the flavours of the wine on their own.
If you are after a food pairing – seafood would be a good bet. Think prawns with a light dipping sauce. You could also pair it with grilled fish. Otherwise, cheese would be a great pairing before dinner – think a nice brie or camembert.
The final word on the Jim Barry Jb Rosé 2018
The Jim Barry Jb Rosé 2018 is a beautifully balanced Rosé that doesn’t swing too far towards sweetness or being too dry. It is the perfect combination of both, with a lingering length that makes it very pleasant to drink. It is all too easy to polish off and will leave you wanting more with each sip.
