The risk of being diagnosed by age 85 is 1 in 7 for women, and the five-year survival rate is 90%. Kate Goodman joined these statistics in 2017, and it highlighted the importance of support systems to her. So she has created the Goodman Wines 2020 Nikkal Rosé to give back.

Kate Goodman was crowned Australian Female Winemaker of the year in 2018, but also was grappling with a Stage 2 breast cancer diagnosis. Now, she wants to give back and so has created the Goodman Wines 2020 Nikkal Rosé. It has been made with the assistance of an industry mentor who also had breast cancer as a celebration of friendship and a way to pay forward the support she received.

This incredible project is so inspiring, especially as Kate is giving all profits from the sale of the wine to the BCNA so they can continue their great work. Her fundraising target is $70,000 which she is hoping to make via the sale of a limited amount of 1000 six-packs.

This wine is a win on two levels – not only do you get a delicious wine (and it is truly tasty if I do say so myself), you get to support a great cause. A warm fuzzy feeling all from drinking wine? Now that’s something I can get behind!

Why I loved it

There are many reasons to love the Goodman Wines 2020 Nikkal Rosé without even trying the wine. I mean the label is absolutely stunning and you are helping a good cause. But the wine itself is absolutely delicious, and set to be a new springtime favourite!

What I loved about this wine was that it was complex yet super refreshing. It was the sort of wine that had enough to it but was very easy to drink. If that doesn’t scream long Springtime lunch I don’t know what does. It is made using Merlot grapes which is something I haven’t had a lot of in Rosé. But it was absolutely delicious with a front palate of red berries (think strawberries) and a hint of spice. It was creamy on the palate but had a great crisp finish which made it oh so refreshing. This is a wine you could quite easily enjoy a few bottles of.

What to pair it with

The Goodman Wines 2020 Nikkal Rosé is great with or without food. I think this wine is perfect for enjoying with friends, sipping over lunch or into the afternoon. It is the perfect wine to enjoy now that we are heading into Spring.

If you wanted to pair it with food, something light would be my go-to. A grazing platter would be perfect to enjoy with some friends and this wine, or even a light salad or grilled fish. Those sorts of meals that are perfect as the weather heats up.
