You’ll enjoy it if: You don’t like your Rosé too heavy
The Dominique Portet Fontaine Rosé 2019 is simply delicious. It is packed full of complex flavours, but refreshing and creamy. From its floral nose to subtly spiced flavours, you’ll want more than one glass of this one as you sit back and watch the world go by.
Well, winter feels like it has been and gone in Brisbane. We get a month if we are lucky where you can pull out the warm clothes, and then it feels like we are back in shorts! I know those of you in cooler areas are going to hate me for saying that, but I personally love a bit of cold weather. Cozying up by the fire is something I love to do, and something we don’t do in Brisbane. But it’s not all bad, because as the weather heats up, there is one thing that I look forward to: sipping on Rosé!
Let’s be real, I sip on it all year round. But I can’t think of anything better than sitting in the sun and enjoying a nice glass of Rosé. And over the weekend, we were lucky enough to head down to the beach where I did just that. The weather was perfect, and it really called for a nice glass of refreshing Rosé. So I was really happy I had a bottle of the Dominique Portet Fontaine Rosé 2019 handy for the occasion!
The Dominique Portet Fontaine Rosé 2019 is oh so refreshing
We picked up the Dominique Portet Fontaine Rosé 2019 when we visited their cellar door in December. Ah, those were the days! They seem like they were years ago now that 2020 has hit. But I absolutely loved this cellar door. If you are in the area, and once restrictions have passed, definitely check it out! Their wines are great, and the cellar door will transport you to France. One of our favourite wines was their Rosé. I was hesitant to open it, but decided it wasn’t worth denying myself of enjoying the bottle any longer!
Interestingly, this Rosé drinks like a Provence style, but is made out of Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. This gives it a unique aroma and flavour which I’ve never had before, and I absolutely loved. I am always trying to find new Rosé to try, and this one certainly surprised and delighted me!
Why I loved it
The Dominique Portet Fontaine Rosé 2019 is everything you want in a Rosé and more. It has a beautiful salmon hue which reminds me of a Provence Rosé, but drank a little differently thanks to the different grapes used. I got the classic red fruit characteristics (strawberries, raspberries) but also a hint of blackberry from the Cabernet Sauvignon. It was bright and crisp, but also nice and creamy to drink. I loved how refreshing each sip was. It didn’t overwhelm you or hit you in the face with bold flavours, but had enough there that you kept wanting to go back for more. I also liked that it had a hint of spice, adding something different. This wine is also really aromatic with plenty of floral and red fruits on the nose. It truly was a great wine to drink from the moment you smelt it to the eventual end of its lengthy finish.
What to enjoy it with
The Dominique Portet Fontaine Rosé 2019 can easily be enjoyed with or without food. It is screaming to be paired with a beautiful warm day. Even if you are drinking it in cooler temperatures, I’m sure it will remind you of the summer sun.
If you are pairing this wine with food, I would definitely go light. Think a light salad with grilled chicken or fish, or an antipasti board. I paired this wine with my lunch on Sunday and it was oh so perfect sitting by the water and watching the world go by.
The final word on the Dominique Portet Fontaine Rosé 2019
The Dominique Portet Fontaine Rosé 2019 is a great wine offering something different and incredibly refreshing. It is truly a delight to drink from start to finish, and incredibly affordable for how delicious it is. You will definitely want to stock up on this one as we head into Summer – it is simply refreshing and delicious. What more could you want?
