Wine review: Corryton Burge Martha Mae Sparkling 2019
The holidays may be well and truly over, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a reason to pop open a sparkling wine! Recently I tried the Corryton Burge Martha Mae Sparkling 2019, and it got me in the celebratory mood, adding a bit of sparkle to the weekend. This sparkling wine is produced using fruit from Tasmania, the home of some of the best sparkling wines in Australia, so you know you are in for a treat! This wine has seen three years on lees, and as a result, it delivers those lovely, creamy flavours you know and love from Champagne, without the price tag!
On the nose, the Corryton Burge Martha Mae Sparkling 2019 has lovely notes of lemon, a hint of floral, and green apple. These flavours follow through into the palate with a lovely brioche, pastry note. The palate is creamy and generous, balancing the vibrant fruit notes nicely. The finish is nice and crisp, with just the right amount of acidity to make this wine very refreshing. It’s a joyful wine, created in tribute to the owner of Corryton Burge’s great-grandmother.
About Corryton Burge
Corryton Burge is a family-owned winery deeply rooted in the rich winemaking heritage of the Barossa Valley, Australia. With a legacy spanning six generations, the Burge family traces its beginnings back to 1855, when John and Eliza Burge arrived from England. Initially producing fortified wines sold door-to-door, the family has evolved into a prominent name in Australian winemaking, cultivating over 300 hectares of vineyards across South Australia. Today, Trent and Amelia Burge continue this legacy, committed to honouring their ancestors’ traditions while innovating for the future. Corryton Burge stands as a testament to the enduring bond between family, history, and the art of crafting exceptional wines.
