With Valentine’s Day celebrations in full swing over the weekend, I was excited to try a sparkling wine I’d never tried before from Wicks Estate. Actually, I’d never tried any of the wines from Wicks Estate, so I couldn’t wait to get stuck in when they sent me a couple of samples. I love any excuse to pop open a bottle of bubbles, and Valentine’s Day provided the perfect excuse! My partner isn’t as into them as I am, so it was great to have a reason to enjoy some bubbles with him.

This bottle of bubbles is actually named after their mother Pamela which I think is super sweet. But it also means you know a lot of love and care went into making this bottle of wine perfect and I have to say you can see this shining through!

About Wicks Estate

The Wicks family ties to Adelaide Hills started as a fruit orchard and nursery by their great grandfather L.J. Wicks in 1918. The nursery was used to propagate fruit trees for returning soldier settlements after WW1, growing plums, apples, peaches, apricots and persimmon.

It was only in 1999 that Tim and Simon Wicks purchased the 54-hectare property they now call home and Wicks Estate to venture into the world of cool-climate wines.

20 years on, Wicks Estate is a family affair involving their partners, children, friends and dogs. The brother’s joint vision, dedication and hard work shine through in the wines they produce.

What I loved about the Wicks Estate Pamela Vintage Sparkling 2015

Wicks Estate Pamela Vintage Sparkling

The Wicks Estate Pamela Vintage Sparkling 2015 is a truly special wine at a great price point. It’s had over four years on lees and uses the traditional method to give it complexity and a fuller body. Those champagne flavours you know and love without the price tag – what’s not to love?

I really enjoyed unpacking this sparkling wine. It is full of complexity and each mouthful allows you to unpack more and more. On the nose, I got apple and a hint of lemon along with a nice nuttiness from the lees. This followed through into the palate which was beautifully creamy with notes of brioche and toasted nuts, along with crisp apple. It was complex and rich yet refreshing. This is definitely a wine Pamela would be proud of!

What to enjoy it with

The Wicks Estate Pamela Vintage Sparkling 2015 is perfect for celebrations of all shapes and sizes. Those traditional method flavours shine through making this wine complex yet refreshing. Perfect for popping open for those special moments instead of Champagne.

I think this wine could be enjoyed without food as it has so much to unpack. But if you do want to pair it with something I think it would be perfectly at home with a nice cheese platter or even a high tea. It would also be great with those classic Champagne pairings like oysters or even creamy pastas.
