Wine review: Tyrrell’s Blanc de Blancs

I’m hanging out for the silly season to get here already, and so popping open some bubbles seems like the best way to bring on some holiday cheer! Recently I was sent the Tyrrell’s Blanc de Blancs 2016 to try, so it was the perfect excuse to pop it open. I’ve never tried a sparkling wine from them before, and this one is a treat, with plenty of age on it already. This wine spent around 8 years on lees before being disgorged this year, hence the term ‘late disgorged’. What this means is so many delicious traditional method flavours to unpack that you’d normally find in Champagne, but from the Hunter Valley instead!

The Tyrrell’s Blanc de Blancs is a really beautiful bottle of sparkling. On the nose it’s quite elegant with a hint of floral along with green apple. This green apple dominates the palate too alongside a nice zesty lemon note that both add freshness to the wine. The influence from aging shines through, with a nice, creamy mouthfeel and lovely brioche and nutty notes throughout. This bottle of bubbles is complex, yet nicely balanced. It is simply delicious, and the kind of wine that is perfect for celebrations of all kinds, even if you haven’t hit the silly season yet.

About Tyrrell’s

Tyrell’s is a bit of an Aussie institution from the Hunter Valley, and it is easy to see why! Their rich history dates all the way back to 1858 when Edward Tyrell arrived in the Hunter Valley and planted Shiraz and Semillon.

160 plus years on, Tyrell’s has been a constant in both the Hunter Valley and Australian wine industries. From pioneering wine varieties to helping establish Hunter Valley Semillon as one of the world’s most iconic wines. Now they have deep respect for their foundations whilst looking to the future.
