On Wednesday night I was thrilled to be part of Girl’s Wine Chat on Instagram. We all brought our favourite Sparkling and I just had to share something a bit different with everyone (as well as uniquely Australian). So I brought along the Taltarni Sparkling Shiraz 2018.
This wine is made using 100% Shiraz grapes from the Pyrenees, Victoria in Australia which is a wine region with unique microclimates.
This wine is one of Taltarni’s flagship wines which are made using cool climate grapes and méthode-traditionnelle. The cool growing season in 2017 meant the grapes could be left for longer on the vine, intensifying the ripe flavours whilst retaining acidity. The wine was kept on skins for 8 days to produce the red colour and then aged in French oak for 12 months after being gently pressed. The wine was then had second fermentation using the traditional method with 12 months on lees.
This Sparkling Shiraz has floral aromas and flavours of blueberry and raspberry along with lovely notes of spice and pepper from the Shiraz. It has a slight sweetness and silky tannins along with a velvety texture. What I really loved about it was that it didn’t have an overwhelming sweetness which you can sometimes get in Sparkling Shiraz. It was nicely balanced and really easy to drink!
The Taltarni Sparkling Shiraz 2018 is an example of an Australian classic and is perfect with or without food. Sparkling Shiraz is renowned for being enjoyed on Christmas morning but personally, I think this wine can be enjoyed all year round! It is great for before dinner with some snacks, or with poultry. But I mean if you want to have it to kick start your day be my guest!
