It’s my birthday tomorrow and so I am looking forward to sipping on some great wine! But I started the celebration early with this unique sparkling wine that you probably haven’t tried before: the Levrier NV Sparkling Meslier Brut Rosé.
As a second-generation winemaker, Jo Irvine started her career early by following her father around the winery. In 2014 Jo started pursuing creating her own brand and in 2017 Levrier Wines by Jo Irvine was born. Levrier is the French term for greyhound, and her label is named after this for her love of winemaking and advocacy for greyhounds as pets.
I actually tried this wine a few years ago when I was just starting out the Cheeky Vino. So it felt fitting to revisit it after all these years (read my original review here).
The Levrier NV Sparkling Meslier Brut Rosé is so unique as there are such small amounts of Meslier grape planted. Grown in the Adelaide Hills, they have the only producing Meslier vineyard outside of Champagne (that they know about). Talk about something different!
This wine is absolutely delicious. On the nose and palate, there is a strong presence of green apple along with soft citrus. This wine is refreshing and vibrant, packed full of fresh acidity making it perfect for enjoying after a warm day. It also has a hint of creaminess to give it a beautiful mouthfeel, and that hint of Cab Sav to give it a beautiful rose gold colour.
Personally, I would be happy enjoying this wine on its own or with a cheeseboard. But it would also be paired beautifully with oysters or seafood with its racy acidity.
