You’ll enjoy it if: you like a less dry style
If you enjoy Provence style Rosé, the De Bortoli La Bohème Act Two Pinot Noir Rosé will be right up your alley. It is fruity, crisp, dry and refreshing, with everything you’d want on a hot summer’s day. Enjoy this great value wine with friends!
Well, Rosé season is well and truly upon us here in Brisbane. Come October you find yourself sweating through most of the day, the crispness is well and truly gone from the morning air, and jackets and jeans are a distant memory. It’s perfect conditions and makes for the perfect excuse to enjoy a refreshing Rosé! Like I need any more reason to enjoy a glass (or two), and this week I wanted to share a particularly good one I enjoyed. The De Bortoli La Bohème Act Two Pinot Noir Rosé is absolutely delicious and completely affordable!
I’ve been recently trying to branch out from my Provence obsessed ways. I am quite partial to wines from the Provence region, but I figured it was about time I gave Australian Rosé more of a chance. We have so many incredible wine regions across the country, so there is no shortage of great bottles to try! And with this one coming from the Yarra Valley which I recently did a wine region spotlight on, I thought it was a good time to share it with you all.
De Bortoli La Bohème Act Two Pinot Noir Rosé surprised me
I have to say I’m a little sceptical of Rosé that costs under $20. Don’t get me wrong, I am a lover of a good value drop. But because of my obsession with Provence Rosé, it means I have an expensive taste by default. It can be near impossible to find a Provence Rosé under $20 in Australia, and so I often end up paying through the nose for it. This is one of the many reasons I decided to branch out and try some new wines. I mean more affordable wine that is also delicious is a win-win, right?
This is where I draw your attention to my latest Rosé find: the De Bortoli La Bohème Act Two Pinot Noir Rosé. De Bortoli is well known when it comes to Australian wine as one of the larger producers. This can give off a bit of a reputation for being mass-produced. However, I suggest you check yourself before you dismiss their wines. I can attest to this as I myself wasn’t sure about giving this wine a go, but once I did I was really pleasantly surprised. It goes to show how a family-run wine company no matter how big can still produce some really decent wines.
The De Bortoli La Bohème Act Two Pinot Noir Rosé comes from the La Bohème range which I also tried the sparkling from. The name is a nod to the Yarra Valley’s Dame Melba who was part of an opera by the same name. I love a good back story, and what I love even more are the beautiful labels on all these wines. If you’re into labels like me and love art deco styles, you’ll love these wines.
Why I enjoyed it
The De Bortoli La Bohème Act Two Pinot Noir Rosé is inspired by pale, dry and textural Provence wines. The colour mirrors those wines from France, and it also has a great dry style. This is why I probably loved it so much.
In terms of what you’ll get as aromas, think strawberry, red currant and pomegranate. I really enjoyed the nose as it was quite fruity, making it really delicious to smell. But the flavour was what really did it for me. If you love a dry Rosé, you’ll love this wine. This is because the fruit flavours aren’t overpowering and are balanced by a good hit of acid. The De Bortoli La Bohème Pinot Noir Rosé had a great length and a deliciously crisp finish.
Overall this wine really blew me away. For the price tag, I couldn’t believe my luck! It was the right balance of fruit and crisp flavours that made it oh so refreshing and kept you wanting to go back for another glass. I could see my friends and I polishing off a bottle or two of this with ease.
What to pair it with
The De Bortoli La Bohème Pinot Noir Rosé is something I would enjoy without food personally. I can see myself sipping on this on a summer afternoon with friends, just enjoying the company. However, I think the balance in this wine would also lend itself to some tasty summer meals, as long as the flavours are fresh. Think fresh Asian salads or seafood for mains.
Or, you could do as I would do and think about some pre-dinner snacks! This wine would pair beautifully with an antipasto board – think cured meats, cheese and all the trimmings. This would be my ideal summer afternoon personally. Give me a bottle of this wine, some delicious cheese and I’m a happy lady!
The final word on the De Bortoli La Bohème Act Two Pinot Noir Rosé
The De Bortoli La Bohème Pinot Noir Rosé is perfect for summer sipping. I’m amazed by how much I love this wine as I normally spend big on Rosé. It made me realise I really shouldn’t be judging a book by its cover. I’m closing myself off to opportunities to enjoy some incredible Australian wines by only focusing on the French varieties. That, and I could be saving a bit of money in wine!
This wine is great value at under $20, and perfect for sharing with friends and doesn’t need a reason to be opened. Just sit back on a hot summers day with a glass in hand, and watch the world go by. Add some cured meats and cheese, perhaps some friends to share the bottle with, and you’ve got the makings of a perfect summer afternoon!
