You’ll enjoy it if: You like your Rosé a little heavier
The Boujee Reserve Rosé 2018 is the sort of wine you’re going to wish you’d bought more than one bottle of. It’s complex but has a nice smooth finish that leaves you wanting another sip. With or without food, this is the sort of wine that you’ll want to open in self-isolation so you don’t have to share!
I’ve been drinking a lot of Rosé lately. I’m not sure exactly why, but it just seems like a good idea! It’s still quite warm here in Brisbane, and I’m trying to enjoy those last few days of summer sun before it all gets a little cooler. Not that Rosé isn’t great all year round! But it seems to be the drink of self-isolation for me – it’s fun, carefree and goes well with a sneaky day drink. Seems like the perfect match am I right?
So I’ve been having some delicious Rosé over the past month or so, and I was going to try and do a post about something else this week. But on Sunday night I had the Boujee Reserve Rosé 2018 and it was so good I just had to share it right away. I mean I always love Rosé, but everyone I was drinking it with was raving about it so much that I figured we were on to a good thing! I mean, in self-isolation that’s a party of three, but trust the panel judgement nonetheless!
The Boujee Reserve Rosé 2018 will leave you wishing you had another bottle on hand
Boujee Wines was developed by a husband and wife team who own bottle shops and are passionate about wine. They developed Boujee wine in pursuit of the best wines from the regions they love the most. After trying many wines to find the perfect ones (sounds like a good job to me), they curated a selection for their range. The result is some truly incredible wines across their Reserve and Boujee ranges.
The Boujee Reserve Rosé 2018 is part of the Reserve range and is sourced from Mornington Peninsula. I mean it was fate that I would love this wine because I love this wine region so much! We had a bottle of this with our allocated two people allowed over at any one time, and to be honest it was one I wish I’d opened when we were in full self-isolation. I mean it was nice having people over, but you wouldn’t want to share this one either!
Why I loved it
The Boujee Reserve Rosé 2018 is made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in the Loire Valley style. I’ll be honest, I haven’t had many Rosés made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape, nor in this style so I was intrigued. These wines are typically still dry but a little heavier than Provence Rosé. Normally I’m not a fan of heavy Rosé as much, but this one completely blew me away.
For starters, that colour! It was golden, almost orange in hue. It was so pretty in the glass – I almost didn’t want to drink it! Paired with a perfect sunset you cannot go wrong. But the taste is what really got me. This wine was so well balanced between fruity notes and a nice acidic finish. You got herbal notes on the nose, then lots going on when you sipped it with cherries and raspberry. It was quite a textured wine, but everything worked perfectly together. It meant you wanted to keep going back for sip after sip to unpack it. This was coupled with a nice clean and smooth finish which meant the wine was all too easy to drink.
So who would love this wine? Well, if you like your Rosé slightly on the heavier side, but also smooth and not overpowering, this would be the wine for you. It has enough gusto to go with food, but is balanced and complex enough that you’ll want to enjoy it without. This is simply a great drinking wine that I think would easily please a crowd.
What to enjoy it with
The Boujee Reserve Rosé 2018 is pretty versatile, in that you could easily enjoy it with or without food. Personally we sipped on it without, and I loved tasting all the complex flavours. With or without friends, I don’t think you’ll have trouble polishing off the bottle.
If you want to pair it with food, because it is a little heavier it would stand up well at a BBQ. I also think it would be really nice with Asian cuisine, or a bit of a picnic. You could definitely bring this along to a lunch session and enjoy sipping the afternoon away long after lunch is done.
The final word on the Boujee Reserve Rosé 2018
The Boujee Reserve Rosé 2018 is an absolutely delicious wine. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that I only had one bottle! I’ve noticed they are doing discounted two packs on their website at the moment, and I would suggest making sure you are stocked up! This wine was just enjoyable to drink. It was complex, but delicious, and didn’t overwhelm you. It left you wanting another sip to continue to unpack it. If this is what Rosé season can be like – I never want it to be over! If you need me through winter, I think I’ll be sitting on my balcony pretending it’s warm and sipping on this.
