It’s no secret that I love =Rosé, but I haven’t tried many that are natural with no filtration. I couldn’t really tell you why, maybe I’ve never had the opportunity. But lucky for me, Barossa Wine Cartel sent me the Barossa Wine Cartel 2021 Rosé to try and I couldn’t wait to try it. They also sent me their alcohol-free Rosé to try out, but you know your girl had to start with this one first. And let me tell you, I’m not usually one for natural wine, but this might have changed my mind.
Why I love the Barossa Wine Cartel 2021 Rosé
The Barossa Wine Cartel 2021 Rosé is a blend of Mataro and Grenache from 90+ year old Grenache bush vines. The grapes were handpicked and gently pressed before using wild yeast for fermentation. No fining or filtration was used to produce this wine, meaning it’s vegan, and it also has minimal sulphur. The wine has a natural haze in the bottle with a beautifully vibrant pink hue.
I really enjoyed the flavours in this wine. Each sip had something different to unpack and I was loving every minute of it! On the nose this wine is packed full of fruit – think red apple, strawberries and raspberries with a hint of citrus. These flavours followed through into the palate which was fruity but had a lovely creaminess to round it out. A crisp, refreshing finish makes this wine oh so refreshing to sip on.
The Barossa Wine Cartel 2021 Rosé tastes like Summer to me and would be perfectly paired with a picnic. This wine, a few friends and some cheese would make for the best afternoon. It’s made for enjoying the sunshine. So even as the weather gets a bit cooler, this wine is sure to bring the summer vibes. And at $25 a bottle, it is great value for such a tasty wine.
About the Barossa Wine Cartel
Barossa Wine Cartel was started by Josh and Ellen. Josh graduated back in 2007 and did a handful of vintages at Peter Lehmann’s, Yalumba and Two Hands. He then worked on the winemaking team at Henschke for 5 years where he grew to love Organic and Biodynamic wine. In 2013 he took over his families winery, Whistler, and after 7 years he started his own label.
Ellen started in the wine industry working in wine labs and now she is the glue that holds the operation together. Their three boys also love getting involved in the process. They believe that wine is a pleasure product and should be enjoyed as such.
