This week it was my birthday on Monday (luckily I had organised a day off so it wasn’t a usual Monday), and so my weekend was filled with celebrations. I am lucky to have amazing and loving friends and family in my life that make me feel so special on my birthday, and this year was no different! My birthday was filled with fun activities, lots of delicious food and amazing wine. Let’s just say I definitely over indulged, but what are birthdays for if not to enjoy yourself, eat too much cake and drink too much sparkling?

I am one of those people who loves any reason to celebrate, and birthdays are no different. I feel like it is the one time to celebrate you, and so I always try to make a big deal out of it and really enjoy it. After all, it can be depressing getting older, so you may as well make the most of celebrating it to make you forget just what is going on! Birthdays shouldn’t be something that just goes by without marking them, and even if I don’t do anything too crazy, I always still try to make them a bit special with the things I love most: mainly being food and wine. This birthday I was lucky enough to be spoiled by those close to me with delicious meals at home, dinner out and with delicious wine to match.

Anyway, back to what we are really here for: the wine. I went over to my parents place for a birthday dinner which was absolutely incredible. My parents know how to make a delicious meal, and if I could cook just half as well as my mum, I think I’d be doing pretty well. They put on a feast with an amazing cheese platter, slow roasted lamb and tiramisu as my birthday cake (they know me so well). It was absolutely incredible! And with that amazing meal came some pretty special sparkling to match.

Birthday’s call for Prosecco of the Primo variety

The sparkling we had was the Primo Estate Primo Secco. This winery is one that my dad has talked to me about on multiple occasions, but I hadn’t tried their sparkling until now. I must get my love of prosecco from my dad. He is like my prosecco guru, paving the way to delicious sparkling. This wine was no different, and was an absolutely perfect way to celebrate a birthday.

Why I loved it

What I love about this prosecco is it is quite light and vibrant. It almost has a bit of a zing to it which makes your mouth water from the acidity. This goes perfectly with the fruity flavours of the wine, making it balanced so it isn’t overpoweringly sweet. It made the prosecco so refreshing without it being too dry. This is a fine line as prosecco can have a reputation for being dry.

What to enjoy it with

I loved this wine as a start to a meal as it almost cleansed the palate. Like a lemon sorbet but better. It paired perfectly with my favourite thing to enjoy prosecco with: cheese. I actually really enjoyed it with a goats cheese brie which complemented it really well.

The final verdict

In short, this prosecco is a great option for a bit of a celebration before a meal to get everyone in the mood. The price also means you don’t need an excuse to pop it open! You don’t need an excuse to pop open this bottle with friends, but you can and should!

I love this prosecco and I’ll definitely be trying some of their other wines.  My dad has told me that that their reds are particularly good. I guess I’ll just have to do some field research.
