This week I cannot believe I am actually about to write this, but I am reviewing a sparkling that isn’t Prosecco! I know, it is a little wild and crazy for me to branch out, but this wine was so good, I simply had to spread around the bubbly love!

A sparkling from down south

I’m talking about the T’Gallant Chardonnay Pinot Noir Sparkling. This little beauty of a wine is from my favourite Australian wine region I’ve explored so far (definitely open to exploring more and seeing if they knock this off number one spot): The Mornington Peninsula. It will always hold a special place in my heart as I went there a lot when I was living in Melbourne for a year.

I absolutely love this wine region for its beautiful wines, amazing scenery, and the lovely people that make the wines. Exploring this area is so amazing every time, and I think the wine producers really make it. They are often smaller than those of the Yarra valley, and less commercial, which I find means that you get more out of a wine tasting (and I enjoy the wines better too! Maybe I just haven’t been to the right places thought). If you have a stop in Melbourne, I would highly recommend heading to Red Hill and trying out the amazing wines that are on offer there. You won’t be disappointed!

Why I loved it

Anyway, back to the sparkling. I chose this T’Gallant wine out of a bottle shop because it was from the Mornington Peninsula, and the Proseccos on offer weren’t taking my fancy. It takes a lot for me to not buy a Prosecco in the first instance, but I saw the T’Gallant and it caught my eye more than the other wines. I am a bit biased to the region, but oh well! I never got to the T’Gallant winery, so this was the first time I had sampled their wines and I was not disappointed! In fact, it gives some of the Proseccos I’ve had a run for their money!

This sparkling was absolutely beautiful. I found it was a lot softer than a prosecco, meaning it wasn’t as bubbly. I liked this as it made it quite light and refreshing, although this did mean it was quite drinkable! The flavours were nice and fruity without being too sweet. It had a nice hit of dryness to counter this. I had a few glasses of this with friends over some snacks before dinner. I tell you, this wine goes beautifully with a summer afternoon and some cheese!

Final verdict

Great news as well, this wine is available in Dan Murphy’s now for a great price! I found it in a smaller, boutique wine shop, but it is great to see that you can get this in a larger bottle shop if you want. It also means that Mornington Peninsula wines are becoming more available, which is a win for everyone!
