Recently I was sent a few wines from Z Wine and I could hardly contain my excitement. I’ve been looking at their wines on Instagram for a while now and have wanted to try them for ages. So you can understand I didn’t know where to start. But the Z Wine Roman Old Vine GSM seemed as good a place as any! Using over 90-year-old hand-picked bush vine Grenache, you better believe I was so excited to get stuck into this. And let me tell you, this wine delivered complex yet smooth flavours that had me wishing I had another bottle.
Why I love the Z Wine Roman Old Vine GSM
The Z Wine Roman Old Vine GSM is a complex wine that is beautifully balanced between fruit notes and earthy spice. On the nose, there are notes of blackberry along with pepper and spice. This follows through into the palate which is seriously smooth with a hint of chocolate and strawberry. It has a beautiful full mouthfeel and a rounded weight. Despite being on the heavier side, it drinks medium-bodied.
What I think is great about this wine is that each part of the blend comes together beautifully. The notes are so well balanced and sip after sip you keep wanting to go back to unpack more. Cinnamon, spice, strawberry, blackberry and chocolate are all there but work so well together. It’s fruity without being too fruity, and smooth without being overly smooth.
The Z Wine Roman Old Vine GSM would be perfectly paired with food. It has a great weight to it that makes it perfect for pairing with braised and roasted meats.
