You know I love Sangiovese an unhealthy amount. I am a little obsessed. But that’s ok, right? We all have our obsessions and this is mine. However, I often find it can be hard to enjoy my favourite Sangiovese in the heat of Summer, especially during the day. So when I was sent the Twin Valleys Sangiovese Barbera 2019 and found out that it could be chilled, I was beyond excited. It would seem my dreams had come true and I could have my cake and eat it too!

One of the great wines they have available is the Twin Valleys Sangiovese Barbera 2019 which is from the King Valley. It is a new world blend of Italian grapes, bringing together Sangiovese and Barbera into a delectable wine without the price tag. I love the blend of these two wines – bringing together the best of Western Italy and Northern Italy: the Piemontese and Tuscan. What more could you want? It may not be a traditional blend, but I am so glad they broke tradition on this one!
The Twin Valleys Sangiovese Barbera 2019 is an absolutely delicious wine and a great option if you are looking for a chilled red. It has a medium body with a beautiful balance between blackcurrant and cherry, and spicy and herbal notes. This wine has the tannin and structure of a Sangiovese but this doesn’t overpower the wine. It is bright and deep, complex yet balanced. I loved unpacking the complexity sip after sip and found it was all too easy to polish off.
You most certainly don’t need to chill this wine to enjoy it. It would be great at room temperature too! But with the weather heating up here in Brisbane, it is great to find wines that you can enjoy chilled. Often I crave a red wine in Summer but can’t fathom it when it is really hot. So I love that this wine can be chilled slightly and still is really delicious. I found the flavours were still beautiful when I enjoyed this wine chilled, and it made it even more refreshing.
The Twin Valleys Sangiovese Barbera 2019 is a great food wine, especially when pairing red wine with Summer food. I think this wine would go so well with anything from a BBQ with friends to a pizza or pasta. You can’t really enjoy white wine with a steak, and this wine would make the perfect pairing as the weather heats up.
What I love about this wine is that it is really affordable and full of crowd-pleasing flavours. It would be the perfect wine to bring along to a catch up with friends. The kind of wine you don’t need to think too much about cracking open on a hot summer’s day to go with a BBQ.
The Twin Valleys Sangiovese Barbera 2019 retails at $25 but is very affordable in a case at Vinomofo. For 12 you only pay $138 which makes each bottle only $11.50! If that’s not great value I don’t know what is. It also means you don’t have to think twice about sharing this wine amongst friends.
