Wine review: Trentham Estate Heathcote Shiraz
The Trentham Estate Heathcote Shiraz is the perfect Shiraz for those who love a hearty wine to go with those winter comfort foods. Its full body and rich flavours make it a great winter warmer, and at $28 a bottle, it is affordable too. What I love about this wine is that it already has a couple of years on it, meaning you don’t need to wait to enjoy it. Simply grab it out to go with a hearty roast lamb or beef, or even a BBQ.
On the nose, the Trentham Estate Heathcote Shiraz has beautiful notes of pepper, plum, cherry and chocolate. This follows through into the seriously lush and rich palate which has a lovely long finish. I loved the complex flavours in this wine from cherry and plum balanced out by spice and careful oak integration. Notes of mocha play out on the palate, balancing out fruit forwardness.
About Trentham Estate
Trentham Estate has a rich history that the Murphy family has continued across generations. They migrated to Australia from Ireland and were one of the first settlers to establish vineyards at Merbein, 15km West of Mildura. After moving to Trentham Cliffs in 1960, their first vintage was produced in 1984 using just 6 tonnes of grapes. Now, Trentham Estate is celebrating its 33rd birthday.
Today, Trentham Estate continues to produce highly commended wines that are award-winning. They look forward to the future continuing to produce quality varietal wines and welcoming visitors to their stunning location on the banks of the Murray in the Mildura wine region.
Their Reserve Range has recently undergone a makeover and celebrates regional excellence. It’s a collection that epitomises the best wines that the featured regions have to offer. Small parcels of fruit are selected and the wines are handcrafted from regions and sites that show real potential. The collection celebrates the diversity of the Australian landscape and the labels illustrate this across the different regions.
