I’ve been hoarding the Tar & Roses Sangiovese for a little bit because I knew I was going to love it but decided it was more important that I share it with you all so you can enjoy it too! And when I tried it oh my gosh, was I happy I did! Sometimes you just have to open that bottle and enjoy it, don’t you?
I’ve been a big fan of Tar & Roses for quite some time, and I’ve had previous vintages of their Sangiovese and loved it. I was so excited to be sent the newest release as a sample (along with their Pinot Grigio – review here). I was certain this one would be no different!
The original Tar & Roses team of Don Lewis and Narelle King began their winemaking journey in Priorat, Spain, immersing themselves within the classic Mediterranean wine regions and varietals. This sparked an interest in how these varietals could be grown and made back home in their native regions of Central Victoria, Australia. In their range, you’ll find all your Mediterranean favourites from Tempranillo to Pinot Grigio.
The Tar & Roses Sangiovese 2020 delivered everything I could have dreamed of and more. On the nose, there’s mulberry along with the classic Sangiovese notes of earthiness and spice. This carries through into the palate along with dried herbs. What I love so much about this wine is the texture. It has a medium body with fine tannins, crunchy acidity and a nice long finish. It’s the perfect wine for enjoying with food and enjoying now. Why wait to open up something so simply delicious?
I can’t think of a better combination than this wine and a nice big bowl of pasta with a red sauce. Or even a pizza! Just do yourself a favour and pair this wine with Italian food.
The Tar & Roses Sangiovese 2020 retails at $27 which is a great price for something so delicious. To find out more and try it for yourself, visit Tar & Roses or head to a major retailer.
