Who loves a delicious Aussie Shiraz? What about the World’s Greatest Shiraz? After Shiraz Day last week, I was inspired to get into more Shiraz. Luckily I had this beautiful one on hand from Taltarni that I was eager to try. I didn’t really need much of an excuse to crack it open! The Taltarni Pyrenees Estate Shiraz 2018 actually won the World’s Greatest Shiraz at the 2020 Winestate magazine awards for the $40-$45 Winestate World’s Greatest Shiraz & Syrah Challenge 2020. If that doesn’t pique your interest I don’t know what will!
This wine is sourced from mature vines including an old Victorian Shiraz clone planted in 1864! This wine has all the makings of being fantastic, and boy did it deliver.
The Taltarni Pyrenees Estate Shiraz 2018 is a deep colour in the glass with notes of white pepper, plum and red berries. I also got some earthiness and spice from this wine and altogether it became a wine I kept wanting to smell. But when I tried it, it got even better! The wine is medium-bodied with a beautiful texture. These flavours carried through along with subtle oak and some delectable chocolate notes on the finish. This wine was complex, rich, yet beautifully balanced. It was the kind of wine you were sad to finish, and that was almost too good to share!
The Taltarni Pyrenees Estate Shiraz 2018 retails at $40 which is a great price for something so delicious. You can find it at bottle stores nationwide.
