I was so excited to try in the lead up to our Tasmanian honeymoon was this fantastic wine from Swinging Gate Vineyard. I’ve been hearing a lot about them as they’ve been recommended to me as a must-visit for our trip. So I couldn’t wait to try one of their wines – luckily I got a chance thanks to Wine Valet!

I had a few wines from Swinging Gate to try, but this one caught my eye being a pink Pinot Gris! Pinot Gris is a white wine normally but the grape has red skin. This means that it can be turned into a pink or even red wine! This wine is something different and so I couldn’t wait to give it a go.

What I loved about the Swinging Gate Wines 2020 Skinny Gris

Swinging Gate Wines 2020 Skinny Gris

The Swinging Gate Wines 2020 Skinny Gris is a simply delicious wine, and definitely one of the best Pinot Gris I’ve had in a while. I’m not the biggest white wine drinker, but I can usually get around a Pinot Gris/Grigio, and this was no different even though it is technically a Rosé. This wine was produced by putting grape skins into the ferment for eight days, giving it the bright pink hue which I love. It is so vibrant in the bottle and in the glass!

The flavour of this wine is a taste sensation. It’s fruity with flavours of peach, guava and grapefruit in the aroma and in the taste. This is balanced out by a crisp acidity that makes the wine very refreshing. It is a little heavy for white wine at 13% but you don’t notice this due to the balance in flavours. I found this wine juicy, refreshing and seriously tasty. Even the non-white wine drinkers were loving this drop which goes to show how enjoyable it is for red and white drinkers alike!

What to enjoy it with

Swinging Gate Wines 2020 Skinny Gris

The Swinging Gate Wines 2020 Skinny Gris is a wine that you can easily enjoy with food. It has a great texture and a bit more oomph to it so can easily be enjoyed with a meal. But I wouldn’t do anything too heavy – think light grilled meats or a salad dish.

We enjoyed this wine with a cheese platter at sunset and it was honestly perfect! It’s a great wine for enjoying with friends, and cheese is a match made in heaven.
