It’s no secret that I love Soumah Wines. I’ve been a long-time fan of their wines and honestly feel like they go from strength to strength. So when they sent me the Soumah Single Vineyard Pinot Noir Syrah to try, I was so excited. I haven’t had many blends of these two varieties before, but apparently, it has a great heritage in Australian winemaking. Many legendary wines made of this blend in the forties and fifties were produced by some of Australia’s most famous winemakers. And this wine is made from grapes from the Hexham Vineyard to produce an absolutely delicious single-vineyard blend.
The Soumah Single Vineyard Pinot Noir Syrah is perfect for those looking for something in between a Pinot and a Shiraz. It is the perfect middle ground between light and heavy, coming together in the middle for a light style dry red. It’s made using about an equal weight of each variety making it a beautifully balanced wine borrowing the best from each variety.
What I love about the Soumah Single Vineyard Pinot Noir Syrah is the balance between the elements of each variety. There is just enough acidity and juiciness from the Pinot which is then balanced beautifully with the spiciness and tannin of Syrah. These elements come together into a seriously tasty wine that is light and simply delicious. Perfect in between meals, particularly in winter when you want a red but nothing too heavy. It’s a crowdpleaser with its delivery of a just-right delicious wine for any occasion.
About Soumah
Soumah has a great range of varieties they offer. They have the classics – Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Viognier, but also focus on styles from Northern Italy such as Barbera, Brachetto, Nebbiolo and Pinot Grigio. This is what I love about their wines – you can try something you wouldn’t normally find in the Yarra Valley.
Soumah focuses on producing single-vineyard wines with quality over quantity as a core value. Their wines are elegant and made with a passion that truly shines through the end result.
