The Silverwaters Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 is a powerful and beautifully balanced Pinot Noir which gives insight into the exciting wines were going to see coming out of this relaunched vineyard. Notes of cherry and plum are balanced beautifully by spice and make for a taste sensation perfectly paired with a good meal.
Recently I was sent a couple of wines from Silverwater Vineyards to try, and I couldn’t wait to get stuck into them. I hadn’t heard of Silverwater Vineyards before who is a small family-run vineyard in San Remo (Gippsland). They don’t have a cellar door, so rely purely on online sales. They were well known many years ago for high-quality wines, and have recently relaunched. If that doesn’t pique your interest I don’t know what will!
I absolutely adore Pinot Noir but don’t drink it as often as I would like. My favourite style is Pinot that isn’t too juicy and light but more earthy and spicy. I have to say this Pinot ticked all the boxes for me, and I think it will for you too.
About Silverwater Vineyards
Hercules (Herco) grew up in South Africa and met Melbourne born Emily in the UK. After their travels, Herco moved to Australia with Emily, and after a long weekend away on Phillip Island saw an 18-acre property with a vineyard for sale. They took the risk and bought it. This kind of story is my kind of dream!
They knew nothing about the wine industry or vineyard management, and so spent the next 6 years learning the ropes and getting guidance from local winemakers. After many years of hard work, they are finally launching their wine!
The vineyard itself in San Remo was established in 2005 and has Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. For many years it was well-known for producing high-quality wines, and with local Gippsland winemaker Marcus Satchell at the helm, they are set to continue. The wines are cool climate, single-site wines produced in rich and fertile soil.
What I loved about the Silverwaters Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021
The Silverwaters Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 is an absolutely delicious drop that ticked all the boxes for me. As I mentioned earlier, I love Pinot. But my favourites are when they are a little darker, earthier and spicier. When they have a bit more oomph and complexity and aren’t a fruit bomb. These do have their time and place, but the deep Pinot Noir holds a special place in my heart.
This wine is exactly that to me. Yes, it had fruity aromas of cherry and plum, but these were balanced by spice and herb notes. On the palate, this wine was powerful yet beautifully balanced between that fruit-forward front and the earthy, spicy finish. It is a dark and brooding Pinot that seriously delivers on balanced flavour.
I really enjoyed this Pinot as it surprised me. I haven’t had a Pinot like this in a while, and I fell in love sip after sip. It’s seriously Moorish and absolutely delicious. And the kind of Pinot you want to pair with a good meal. It’s also the kind of Pinot you could cellar for a little bit to further develop its flavours, making it a great gift idea.
What to enjoy it with
The Silverwaters Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 is a great food Pinot and should be paired with a good meal. These deeper, heavier Pinots go perfectly with food and have some great combinations to try. This Pinot would be perfect with a duck dish, but would also be right at home with a slow-roasted casserole. Those deep flavours would pair beautifully with either and cut through the fat with ease.
In summary: Silverwaters Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021
The Silverwaters Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 seriously delivered on flavour and surprised and delighted me. This wine has classic fruit notes balanced beautifully by earthiness and spice. It’s dark and powerful yet beautifully balanced. Perfect for pairing with food. It goes to show that Silverwaters Vineyard has a bright future ahead of them, and I can’t wait to watch it unfold.
