Wine review: Pike & Joyce ‘Sirocco’ Chardonnay
Recently I was sent a few wines from Pike & Joyce to try and as soon as I saw the Chardonnay I knew I had to try it. Although my husband’s motto with Chardonnay is the oakier the better, I prefer one with the balance between oak and unoaked elements. I love the complexity that balanced Chardonnay brings in the palate. To me, it’s the best of both worlds. After looking at the tasting notes for the Pike & Joyce ‘Sirocco’ Chardonnay, I knew I would love it, and it delivered in complexity, balance and restraint.
The Pike & Joyce ‘Sirocco’ Chardonnay is simply beautiful from start to finish. On the nose, notes of peach, lemon and melon come together with a hint of toastiness from the barrel fermentation. With a small amount of this wine going through malolactic fermentation, the palate has a lovely balance between oaked and unoaked notes. It is creamy and rich, just clean and crisp with a medium body. Peach and lemon curd dominate the palate with just the right amount of acidity to balance out that creaminess from the malo. It’s complex yet balanced, elegant and refined. It’s definitely one to check out if you’re on the hunt for a nice Chardonnay!
