Mount Avoca Estate 2017 Tempranillo

by The Cheeky Vino

I recently tried the Mount Avoca Estate 2017 Tempranillo and absolutely loved it. I’ve always been a fan of Tempranillo and this one really wowed me. It ticked all the boxes and was even Organic too!

Mount Avoca is located in the Pyrenees region of Victoria. They produce pure, clean organic wines with passion and integrity, grown, made, and bottled on the estate and independently audited and certified Organic in both the vineyard and winery. Mount Avoca is Australia’s most highly awarded organic winery.

I received this as part of the Estate Mixed dozen which really has something for everyone and gives you a taste of their wines with each bottle being a different variety. If you join their wine club and order a minimum of three cases per year and you get a 50% discount on all Wine Club cases (Reds, whites and mixed dozens)

The Mount Avoca Estate 2017 Tempranillo is a seriously beautiful wine. On the nose, I got blackberry and coffee which really made me want to dive into my glass. The wine itself was medium-bodied with the blackberry again, cherry and a hint of herb. I loved the savoury leather notes to round out the fruity forwardness of this wine. It was balanced with enough tannins to give it a satisfying finish. It was surprisingly easy to drink and I was a bit disappointed when we polished it off!

This wine is perfect for enjoying with food. We had it with a Mexican feast and it was surprisingly perfect. However, I think it would go so well with cured meats and maybe a nice platter of antipasto, or even some pizzas.
