You know how much I love my red wine, but with the weather heating up I find myself searching for the perfect light-bodied reds. This means I normally end up with a Pinot Noir in hand. There are plenty of red wines that fit into this category, but Pinot Noir is one of those wines that has so much to discover. Each region and each winery offers something unique and different to explore in your glass. I love how versatile this grape variety is, even if it is often a little bit more expensive than some of the other wine varieties.
As we gear up for warmer weather, I was so excited to try the Mont Wines Pinot Noir 2019. So let’s get stuck into the review and what I thought. Spoiler alert: there’s even a sneaky discount code at the end of this review to get you started.
About Mont.
Mont Wines was started by Martin Burns whose friends call him Monty. After working on his parent’s vineyard in the Pyrenees, he fell in love with wine (despite being used for free labour along with his sisters). After studying he settled in Mornington Peninsula and after working across cellar doors, vineyards and wineries started his own label – Mont.
The focus is small-batch single-vineyard wines which truly express the origin. Martin sources small parcels of grapes from regions and vineyards that grow each varietal best, with grapes handpicked and certified organic wherever they can. The wines are used making classic winemaking techniques with oak that complements, not overwhelming the flavours. He also has a focus on sustainability in everything he does where he wants Mont to be as responsible, sustainable and ethical as possible.
I’ve been intrigued by Mont for quite some time and I do have to say their labels play a big part in that! They truly are insta-worthy. Not only are they nice to look at, they actually tell you something about the wine. Each label is a graphical representation of the flavour profile of the wine. These were designed by Zoe Bonwick. You know I am a sucker for a good label, but I couldn’t wait to get stuck into this Pinot Noir!
Why I loved the Mont Wines Pinot Noir 2019
The Mont Wines Pinot Noir 2019 is just plain delicious. We had it with some friends while we were making homemade pasta, and it was gone all too quickly. This wine is all too easy to drink, leaving you wanting sip after sip. Its colour is quite light in the glass and has a vibrant ruby colour.
This Pinot Noir is quite fruit-forward which I love. It makes it all too easy to drink and perfect for warmer weather. Think notes of strawberry and cherry – those flavours classic to Pinot Noir. These vibrant fruit flavours are balanced by a nice acidity that makes the wine oh so refreshing. It’s perfect for enjoying now, and would also be great lightly chilled as the weather heats up!
Matches made in heaven
The Mont Wines Pinot Noir 2019 is great with or without food. We enjoyed it as we were cooking dinner and it was a great wine to start the evening off with. You really don’t need anything to enjoy this wine with.
If you are looking to pair it with food, think something light. A salmon dish would be perfectly paired with this wine or even something with chicken. Pasta with a light sauce would also be a great pairing. Just don’t pair anything too heavy or spicy with this one as it will overpowering the vibrancy of the fruit.
In summary: Mont Wines Pinot Noir 2019
The Mont Wines Pinot Noir 2019 is an absolute delight to drink and shows the care that Mont Wines put into their small-batch wines. I love a Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir, and this one reminded me of why that is. It’s perfect for red drinkers as the weather warms up with or without food. The vibrant fruit and crisp acidity pair so well together leaving you wanting another sip, another glass, and just like that the bottle is polished off! Not such a bad thing with a wine like this.
