Wine review: Mercer Wines Malbec 2022
On my trip to Tumbarumba, I was lucky enough to meet some incredible growers from the region, as well as winemakers from across New South Wales. Aaron Mercer was one of those winemakers, and we had some great conversations on the trip. I didn’t get a chance to try his wines on the trip, so when Mercer Wines sent me a few bottles to try, I was so excited to crack them open. It was hard to know where to start, but I figured it had been a hot minute since I’d had a Malbec so the Mercer Wines Malbec 2022 was where I began. And it really hit the spot!
The Mercer Wines Malbec 2022 is beautiful inside and out – I mean look at that striking label! I absolutely love the look of their wines, and then you get into the actual wine and it’s even better! In the glass, it’s a deep garnet colour with aromas of cherry, blackberry and a hint of lavender. The fruit follows through into the palate which is rich and complex, yet beautifully balanced. I loved the play between the fruit and spice in this wine, it made me keep going back sip after sip. Along with a nice, long finish, this wine delivered flavours in spades from start to finish. It would be perfect to pair with a BBQ or even a nice cheese board with friends. Although you might not want to share!
