Wine review: Ledgard Wines Pinot Noir 2021
After trying the Ledgard Wines Chardonnay a few weeks ago, I was excited to try the Ledgard Wines Pinot Noir 2021. And let me tell you, I’m so glad I did! This wine is absolutely delicious, and the kind of wine that keeps delivering as you sip. There’s plenty to unpack in the glass, but what I love most is that it isn’t too overpoweringly juicy. It has a lovely elegance and softness to it thanks to time in oak. It’s the kind of Pinot that will be right at home as we head into cooler weather, alongside a bowl of mushroom risotto of course!
On the nose, the Ledgard Wines Pinot Noir 2021 is wonderfully aromatic with notes of strawberry, vanilla and a hint of spice. These notes follow through into the palate which has a lovely elegance and softness alongside the play between fruit and spice. The vanilla from oak influence truly rounds out the wine and balances out the complexity of it all. A nice, long finish allows the flavours to linger long after you take a sip. This wine is an absolute delight, and the labour of love shines through from the effort in daily hand plunging during ferment. It was definitely worth it!
About Ledgard Wines
Ledgard Wines is a family-owned business run by Rhys and his wife Andreia, who are parents to two boys, Oscar and Xavier. In 2019, Rhys suggested that they make a wine dedicated to their first son, and this idea turned into a venture that has produced seven wines from the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale wine regions to date. The Ledgard family has a long history in viticulture, with roots dating back to the 1940s.
Rhys takes a gentle approach to winemaking, using minimal intervention and additives, and selecting the best fruit from premium producers to create high-quality wines that speak for themselves.
