I’ve really been getting into my Barossa wines lately. It could be something to do with my wanderlust which is begging me to go and visit. I am desperate to get down there and hoping restrictions are going to ease soon so that I can plan a holiday! But until then I will simply visit the Barossa Valley through my wine.
I was recently sent a few wines from Lambert Estate to try and I couldn’t wait to crack them open. But I saved their Shiraz until we had our friends over on the weekend who love Barossa Shiraz. They are huge fans of big and bold wines, so I knew they’d appreciate me sharing with them. Then I could get their thoughts too! I have to admit though, once I tried this wine I sort of wished I’d kept it to myself. Lucky they are good friends!
About Lambert Estate
Lambert Estate, previously known as Stanley Lambert Wines, is a family affair. James (Jim) and Pamela Lambert are the owners and their son Kirk and wife Vanessa are the winemakers. Jim and Pamela moved to Australia in the 1990s after business travels brought him to Australia, and his dream was realised when they discovered the vineyards in the Barossa Hills that would become Lambert Estate. Kirk joined them and studied wine-making at the University of Adelaide where he fell in love with Vanessa.
Now Kirk and Vanessa bring their American and Peruvian backgrounds to winemaking to create wines with flair and individuality in every bottle. Lambert Estate wines are authentic Barossa Valley wines that respect the past while keeping an eye on the future.
What I loved about the Lambert Estate The Commitment Shiraz 2017
The Lambert Estate The Commitment Shiraz 2017 is a seriously delicious wine. What I love firstly about it is that it is from 2017 meaning that it has some age on it. This is great because you don’t need to pop it away in your cellar to enjoy it. It’s drinking well now so perfect if you’re after something drink ready. Alternatively, you could cellar it for another 5 years to allow the flavours to develop. It is a Barossa Shiraz after all.
This wine had the aromas of liquorice and choc mint paired with blackberry and plum fruit. On the palate, however, was where it really shined. This wine was plush and rich with velvety tannins and a nice long finish. Those flavours from the aroma carried through and were balanced by vanilla and spice. This wine packs a punch with its full body but those plush and rich flavours really made it a delicious experience.
What to enjoy it with
The Lambert Estate The Commitment Shiraz 2017 is a wine that is crying out to be paired with a good meal. Its full body and rich and intense flavours make it the perfect match for something delicious. Although Shiraz is often at home with a steak, I think this wine would actually be paired better with something slow-roasted. A slow-roasted beef or lamb would make the perfect pairing for this dish. It would also be a great wine to bring out over a Christmas dinner, or even as a Christmas gift. Maybe the special someone you give it to will share it with you!
In summary: Lambert Estate The Commitment Shiraz 2017
The Lambert Estate The Commitment Shiraz 2017 is a beautiful Shiraz from the Barossa Valley that might carry a slightly higher price tag but that I believe is really well priced. Many wines you buy do benefit from some ageing and the team at Lambert Estate have done the hard work for you! All you need to do is pop it open and enjoy those rich and velvety flavours with your next tasty meal.
