A few weeks ago I shared my thoughts on the Grenache Mataro from Hutton Vale Farm (read the review here). But they also sent me a few other wines to try. And I have to tell you, the Hutton Vale Farm Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 was a serious winner in my books.
Hutton Vale Farm is in the Barossa Valley and is owned by the Angas family. They are renowned for their fine wine, quality wool, free-range natural pasture lamb and hand-made artisan produce. They are dedicated to the land on which they live. So they are committed to enhancing the natural, cultural and community landscape.
Hardly anyone was planting Cabernet in the Barossa when the Angas family was establishing their vineyards in the 1960s, and it wasn’t until the 1990s when this was planted on Hutton Vale Farm. Despite the late start, the quality of the fruit suggests a bright future!
The Hutton Vale Farm Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is a seriously delicious wine from the Eden Valley. I’m not usually a huge fan of Cabernet Sauvignon but this one changed my mind! It had a deep red colour in the glass along with delightful aromas of mulberry, blackberry and a hint of mint and toastiness.
On the palate, this wine was juicy with velvety tannins, along with tobacco and spice notes to balance this out. A nice long finish rounded this wine out and the good balance of tannin and acidity suggests it would be a great one for ageing.
This wine retails at $60 a bottle but comes with a good amount of ageing on it already. So you don’t need to wait to enjoy it. It would make for a great gift or a perfect match for a good meal.
