Welcome to 2022 everyone! I’m kicking it off with a review of this beautiful Hardys HRB Riesling 2020.
Hardys is a bit of an Australian institution being established way back in 1853 by Thomas Hardy. Hardy is generally regarded as the father of the wine industry in South Australia.
Thomas Hardy started blending grapes from multiple regions in 1865 as he believed blending grapes with different characteristics would compliment and enhance the qualities of each in the final wine.
Today, the Heritage Reserve Bin range pushes the boundaries of winemaking through a cross-regional blending of hand-selected grapes. They use grapes from premier Australian regions resulting in wines that are complex and unique expressions of the varietal.
The Hardys HRB Riesling 2020 is a seriously delicious wine. I haven’t tried many multi-region wines before so this was exciting to check out. It’s made using grapes from the Clare Valley and Tasmania for a dry style Riesling that is wonderfully aromatic.
On the nose, I got beautiful floral notes along with lemon and lime citrus. On the palate, this wine is vibrant yet elegant with notes of lime, green apple and a hint of minerality. It was complex with plenty to unpack yet beautifully balanced. I also thought it had a nice long finish.
I’m not usually much of a Riesling drinker but this one made me question why that is!
The Hardys HRB Riesling 2020 would be paired beautifully with seafood. It’s a great Summer drop to have with lunch!
This wine is available at retailers nationwide and is around $30 a bottle.
