Gifts for wine lovers – The Cheeky Vino Gift Guide

by The Cheeky Vino

And just like that it’s December, and Christmas is almost upon us! What a year 2020 has been. But before we say goodbye to the year that was (thank goodness), it’s time to start looking to the silly season. I think we’re all in need of a break and a celebration with friends and family now more than ever. With so many restrictions this year, it’s going to feel so nice to catch up with friends and family once more! I’m so excited for the festivities, but even more excited to spread some Christmas cheer with the perfect gifts. So I’ve decided to compile a list of perfect gifts for wine lovers.

This list isn’t promoted, it is purely based on what I would love to receive or give to the wine lovers in my life. I hope it helps you find the perfect gift, or get inspired!

1. Give the gift of good wine

via Giphy

With everything that has gone on this year, our Aussie wine industry needs our support now more than ever. Many of our regions have been ravished by bushfires and with lockdowns, in place across our country, they have also suffered from reduced tourism. Add the recent changes to the Chinese Government Wine Tariffs and hey, you have 2020.

So what better gift to give than the gift of good wine? Not only will the person you are giving the gift to love it, but you’ll also be supporting our Aussie wine industry. Wine is a great gift for the person who has it all because it gives them a chance to enjoy something they may have never tried before. You could grab some bottles from your favourite region or winery to help them discover something new. Many of the wineries are also doing special Christmas packs which would make for the perfect festive gift. Every dollar counts and will help our wine industry get back on its feet.

Another alternative would be to gift a wine tour. If you live near a winery region now would be the perfect time to head on out and discover some new wineries. You could purchase a ticket for a wine tour for that special someone and head out for a day of fun.

If you want some inspiration, you can check out my Drink Aussie Wine page which has a list of wineries who were impacted this year. Otherwise, visit your favourite wineries website to see what you can find!

2. Monogrammed wine glasses

The next on my list of perfect gifts for wine lovers is some nice wine glasses. I have put this on the list because if I’m honest I would love to get these as a gift (hint for anyone from my friends and family reading this post hehe). I’ve been seeing monogrammed wine glasses popping up all over the place, and they look so nice. Personalised wine glasses are also fun, but I find these a lot more subtle.

My favourites are from ZO Personalised or Mon Verre. They have really nice looking glasses and even do glasses for cocktails too!

3. Wine tools to take your picnic to the next level

I don’t know about everyone else, but with all the restrictions this year I have been really enjoying getting outside and having picnics. It’s been such a great way, and sometimes the only way, to catch up with friends and family. As the weather has heated up I’ve been enjoying it even more, so if you’re like me, a perfect gift for wine lovers could be something to help them take their picnic to the next level.

With the weather so hot, you want something to keep your beverages cold. I personally love (and do not yet own) these Brumate glasses. Not only do they have insulated tumblers for wine and sparkling wine, they also have a bottle version so you can keep your wine cool for longer! They also come in a range of colours and you can even make your own wine gift set so they have everything they need.

Another idea are these cute picnic tables which have a space to hold your wine glass and a wine bottle. So you can set up your cheese on the table and enjoy your wine without worrying about it spilling everywhere. There are plenty out there with a range of sizes, styles and prices. I love this one from Hard To Find which you can personalise to take it to the next level.

4. Apparel that will show their love of wine

I am all for wine apparel, and I think these fun gifts for wine lovers make a great stocking filler or secret Santa present. There are so many funny shirts, socks and even jewellery to show their love of wine. But if they love cooking, what about this hilarious oven mitt? I wish I could grow wine like this! Or a funny apron to help them with their Christmas cooking like this one.

I’ve also recently dabbled in creating some fun wine-related merchandise which you can find on Society 6. There are all sorted of things to show their love of wine – whether its coasters, art prints or phone cases. Get $15 off by clicking here.

5. Practical wine gifts

If you have a serious wine lover in your life, why not gift them something they’ll actually use? These make for perfect gifts for wine lovers as they’ll use them again and again.

Something you could get them would be a nice wine decanter. There are so many styles out there that suit all budgets and they make for a really nice gift. If you are after something more practical, you could get them a VinOair which they can easily pop into the top of a bottle. I also love this electronic wine aerator that saves your wine too.

If you’re looking for something stylish, I love these Eto Wine Decanters that also preserve your wine beautifully. They look great on a kitchen bench too.

6. Tools to help them learn more about wine

Finally, why not give the gift of learning more about wine? If the wine lover is really into enjoying wine, they might appreciate doing a course to learn more! Wine Folly offers an online course which isn’t too expensive.

Another option could be a wine tasting journal so they can capture their notes as they taste. I love this one from Wine Folly, but Moleskine also does a nice one too.

In summary – perfect gifts for wine lovers

I hope you’ve enjoyed this guide to some perfect gifts for wine lovers. I hope they inspire you to get into the spirit of the festive season and help you get that perfect gift for your special someone.
