Made the Grampians Way – Discover a new favourite or two

by The Cheeky Vino

Have you heard of the Grampians? Located in Victoria 2-3 hours West of Melbourne, it is home to some of the world’s oldest vines. It’s renowned for its peppery shiraz and sparkling wines which have been produced for over 150 years. This year COVID-19 has meant that most of us have been unable to get out and visit the wineries, and wine regions like the Grampians need our support. While it might be too hard to make it there in person, we can luckily discover some of the incredible wineries of this region through the Made the Grampians Way portal!

Ararat Rural City Council has collaborated with the Grampians Winemakers Inc and Grampians Tourism to launch this new online platform that profiles both emerging and established winemakers from the Grampians region. The portal makes it easy to discover wineries that are producing fantastic drops from the comfort of your home. It also means you can start writing a list of wineries you will be able to visit the next time you can make it down to the Grampians.

I simply love this initiative. It has been terrible to hear about how hard our wineries have been hit in 2020 due to COVID-19 and a lack of tourism. Made the Grampians Way makes it so easy to support these wineries, and also try some exciting wine while you do it! I haven’t been to the Grampians myself but after trying these wines it has definitely jumped to the top of my list!

You can check out their website and discover the perfect wines for you now.

So what will you find on the Made the Grampians Way wine portal? I find it can be hard sometimes knowing what you want to purchase without trying a wine first. I also love to get a variety of wines so I can try different styles and producers to find my dream wine. On this wine portal, you’ll find a variety of mixed cases which showcase the versatility of the Grampians region. It means if you’ve never been to the Grampians before, you can discover new wines that will suit your tastes!

The mixed cases profile both small producers to give them critical exposure as well as some of the region’s best and most established wineries. Prices start at $164 for Off the Beaten Track mixed half dozen which is full of hidden treasures to discover. There is a Seriously Shiraz Dozen where you can familiarise yourself with the region’s renowned Shiraz, or if you want to try something different, you can give the Award-Winning Mixed Dozen or the Summer Special Mixed Dozen a go. If you’re looking for the perfect Christmas wine there’s also a Christmas special where you can sample the region’s Sparkling Shiraz.

What I also love is that you can create your own bundle once you know which wines you love, or if you know what you’re after. It gives you the flexibility to create something that truly matches your flavour profile and preferences.

Whether you want to try something classic, something that will surprise you, or know exactly what you want, there is something for everyone on the Made the Grampians Way wine profile. And who knows?

The Award-Winning Mixed Dozen

I was lucky enough to sample the Award-Winning Mixed Dozen, and I have to say it made me fall in love with the Grampians. It features a range of wines displaying just how incredible the wine of this region is. It has a mix of whites, reds and sparkling wines so you can truly see the breadth of this incredible wine region beyond their signature styles.

This Award-Winning Mixed Dozen is $399 and includes some big names as well as smaller boutique producers. I tried two of the Shiraz wines and a Sparkling Shiraz and it only left me wanting more! I was blown away by the flavours in the wine and the quality. There was so much to discover, and each wine offered something different. It’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser and would be perfect for stocking up for Christmas!

So discover the magic of the Grampians at Made the Grampians Way

Made the Grampians Way is not just another online store. Not only does this wine portal offer some great mixed packs, you’ll also find information about the region and its history to help you learn more about this incredible wine region. I love this initiative and how it helps to profile both small and established producers, connecting them with wine lovers so we can support them when they need it most. It feels good to know you are helping support our Aussie Wine Industry while also getting to enjoy some incredible wine!

This wine portal has not only taught me so much about this wine region, it has made me want to go so badly! I can’t wait to visit these incredible producers in person now that I have discovered more.

Oh wow, it’s so strange to find a blog post about the state that I’m from – especially one that I accidentally stumbled across without realising that the Grampians was even a place in Victoria! 😂 I didn’t know we were known for wines down here, but I don’t drink so that’s why 😅

It’s great that their website has so much information on it! Whenever I discover a new thing – whether it be a new product, person of interest, hobby, etc – I LOVE learning the history of it, so it’s wonderful that you were able to do the same thing thanks for the website, especially since you weren’t able to actually visit the Grampians just yet.

Haha that is so funny! It is amazing all the incredible places you can visit in your home state – I am jealous that you have so many great wineries on your doorstep!

They all sound lovely that I wanna try. Sadly, I don’;t think these are available where I am in the Philippines. Our wine choices are limited.

Wineries like many businesses are suffering during the pandemic. That’s a great idea they had to create the wine portal so that people can learn about new wines and order wines online.

Yes it is such a great idea to help these businesses and get us connected with them!

Even though I don’t take alcohol, I must admit I once enjoyed a visit to a wine tasting event. This post will surely interest my cousin, a great fan of fine wine!

Honestly I never really think of Australia when I think of wine, but I’m not a big wine drinker. When I do I opt for local (Southern California) wines. Great that they are offering new things during the pandemic.

I have been trying to support our local wineries, breweries and distilleries as much as possible this year instead of just purchasing alcohol from our liquor stores. There are so many incredible small business owners that are giving everything they have to their businesses and still struggling with the rules and regulations in place this year. I love the idea of an online option where you can learn about the different wines and order online! That’s so smart!
